Subject: Early 00's vs. Late 00's

Written By: batfan2005 on 03/05/06 at 11:46 am

It seems like there is a big difference between the early half of the decade (2000-2004), and the later half (2005-beyond). I felt that the first half was pretty much a continuation of the late 90's styles, while 2005 was the beginning of a new era of unique styles and trends. I also noticed that the later half is darker than the early half with the slowing economy, rising crime rates, and pessimism about the future.

I agree. The good part of the 00's for me lasted until June 2004. That month was a terrible month. I gradually got better, but no recovery.

There is a difference between the very early 00's(up until the summer of 2001) and now. I'd say things have pretty much been the same as they are now since early 2002.

Things have essentially been the same since 03-04...we're at the peak of the '00s, but very washed-out. It's only downhill from here. Probably it'll start to be very noticeable in 07-08.

Yeah, I'd agree.  2002 is just as '00s as now, just a bit less developed.  2006 is the "deepest" we'll ever get into the '00s I think, although I believe 2004 was the peak of '00s culture.

But, I think the entire decade, and probably even the early 2010s will have a strong '90s afterglow.  However, I think the years between now and the real '90s are finally beginning to catch up on us.  I mean, really, it's not that long before 1990 is 20 years ago.

Yeah I see 2006 as being the last "very 00's" year of this decade but 2007-2010 will still have an 00's feel just to a lesser extent. By 2011 things will be way different. As far as the 90's goes maybe the years will catch up to us and the 90's can peacefully fade out. Maybe then 1999 wont seem like "yesterday" ;)

I disagree about your assertion the mid-latter 00s are 'darker.' September 11, the Bali Bombings, the Tsunami., the early-21st century had it all..I actually think after Iraq and all that we'll enter a more positive age. But then again, I'm not all that optimistic myself.

Music-wise, the best years for 'less mainstream but still pop' music began in 2003...though the standards of chart music has been declining ever since the end of Brit-pop in about '96. Especially the US and UK charts.

I think the 2010s will be a slightly positive decade with a good underground contrasting with an "establishment" group of young adults and families, like the '50s. The 2020s will see alot of rebellion by Gen AA, the "new boomers." The 2010s will be considerably more progressive and positive, though.

I agree. After another administration comes into office in 2009 the war in Iraq will end and the economy will go back up again. I see the 2010's as being a positive time.
