The Beach Boys lost ALL respect I had left for them by rushing to release Kokomo after finding out that "Real" Beach Boy Brian Wilson was putting out his first solo LP the next day. I've always thought Mike Love was a jerk as well....but to finally answer your poll? I really did like "Getcha Back"...especially the video with the nerd guy ending up with his childhood girl :)

Which film was it that featured Kokomo?

Well...I do happen to know that "Wipeout" (which featured the rap group The Fat Boys) was a cover of the Surfaris' instrumental from the 60's; I don't know it too well. The only one I do know well is "Kosovo" I mean "Kokomo." That one gets my vote.

Hi Philip! That would be "Cocktail" with  Bryan Brown, Tom Cruise & Elisabeth Shue from 1988 ;)

Of everything listed, I picked "Kokomo".

When I was a kid, my folks and I would sometimes vacation in Hawaii. The first time I heard it was there in the Winter of '88. So needless to say, I associate it with tropical stuff and vacationing! ;)

I just learned something new though - I figured that was their only 80's hit as a "comeback".

I've never heard the others - what are they like? Did they update themselves for an 80's sound, or did they more stick to their old style?

But I do prefer their earlier songs.

They pretty much stayed true to that surf sound they were known for :)

- Come Go With Me is a cover of the Del-Vikings song
- California Dreamin' is a cover of the Mama's and Papa's song
- and like Jeff says, Wipeout is a cover of the Safari's song of the same name.  The Fat Boys provide the vocals, the Beach Boys provide the music :)

Some Trivia:  Come Go With Me technically is a 70's song as it originally appeared in the 1978 Beach Boys album MIU, but it was never released as a single until 1981 :)

I liked it until they decided to play it every hour on the hour!

I picked 'Kokomo' - I liked it when they appeared in that episode of Full House where DJ wins tickets to their concert and has to pick someone to go with her, then the Beach Boys (even Brian) showed up and they all jammed in the living room and ended up inviting the whole family to the concert.  :)
