Subject: What year did you buy each console?

Written By: 2001 on 01/10/16 at 9:26 pm

The "being a kid in the early 2000s" thread with the video game talk of when people bought different consoles made me think up this thread. It sounds like it would be interesting! Maybe also list launch games you bought it with them.

So I'll go first

1993 - born
1996 -- I had an Atari and NES. Yeah, my parents were cheap, not sure when we bought them.
1998 - Gameboy -- Pokémon Red
1998 - Nintendo 64 -- Ocarina of Time & Super Mario 64
2000 - Gameboy Color -- Pokémon Gold
2002 - Gamecube -- Super Smash Bros. Mélee & Luigi's Mansion
2003 - Gameboy Advance -- Megaman Battle Network, Pokémon Ruby
2004 - Playstation 2 -- GTA San Andreas
2006 - Nintendo DS -- Mario Kart DS
2007 - Wii -- Wii Sports and Twilight Princess
2008 - Xbox 360 -- Forza 2 and Halo 3.
2011 - 3DS -- Super Mario 3D Land
2014 - Playstation 3 (no kidding!) -- various games.

What year did you buy each console? I'm interested!  :D

I would advise learning Japanese first  ;D

On the Gamespot boards around 2006-2007, there was this huuuge SEGA fanboy who learnt Japanese so he could play all the Saturn games. He says it's his favourite console of all time and that you had to learn Japanese to really appreciate the Saturn  ;D The guy was whack but you have to respect his dedication. He was the only Nintendo hater I liked. Other than that, if you were a Nintendo hater, you were my mortal enemy!

What games did you guys buy when you first bought the consoles?

As a preschooler and kindergartener I loved Nintendo for their 64 and color consoles. But during the GameCube era the PS2's awesomeness drove me away. PlayStation 2 felt like a badass and cool console. Nintendo felt like they hadn't moved on with the times, the GameCube looked like a freaking lunchbox. I know I was still at that kid age, but I wanted something fresh and new, PlayStation 2 was exactly that.

1993 - born (pretty obvious with my screen name  ;D)

1999 - Game Boy Color - Either Super Mario Bros DX or Pokemon Red (I got both around the same time, I'm just not sure which one I got first)

1999 - N64 - Star Wars: Ep. I Racer and Ocarina of Time

2000 - PS1 - Spyro The Dragon

2000 or early 2001 - Dreamcast - Sonic Adventure

Either late 2001 or early 2002 - Game Boy Advance - Some Tony Hawk game (can't remember specifically)

2002 - Gamecube - Super Smash Bros. Melee

2003 - PS2 - DBZ Budokai

2005 - Nintendo DS - Super Mario DS

2006 - Sony PSP - I think it was Need For Speed: Underground 2

2007 - XBOX 360 - Spiderman 3

2008 - Nintendo Wii - Super Smash Bros Brawl and Mario Party 8

2015 - PS3 - Kingdom Hearts 1.5 HD Remix (I kid you not, I bought this system nearly 10 years after it was originally released. Only reason I bought it was to play KH 1.5 and 2.5)

1986 - Nintendo (it was a birthday gift)

1995 - Playstation
1997/98 - Nintendo 64
1997    -  Gameboy
1998 - Sega Genesis
2000s  - PS 2

2005  - PSP
2007  - wii (a couple years later I traded it in for a black one)

Edited because I forgot to include my Wii

I will try my best to list everything in the right order lol

1991: Sega Genesis- The first console I remember us having. With it we got Sonic the Hedgehog. Later on we had Monopoly, Mrs. Pac-Man, Moonwalker, Golf, NBA All stars and this racing game. My sister still has it as far as I know but we lost some of the games.

1993: Super Nintendo- With this we had Donkey Kong Country. We also got Super Mario World and Mario All Stars. I remember my cousin had some games for it as well, Mortal Combat, Street Fighter and Donkey Kong 2. We sold this console last year as we no longer played it.

1997?: NES- I'm not 100% sure when we got our first one. I know it was before this but since I don't know the exact year I will talk about this particular one. We got it at a garage sale. With it Super Mario Bros. and Duck Hunt. Double Dare, Wheel of Fortune and I think we had more. My sister has it as far as I know.

2000?: Playstation- we got this sometime in the late 90's/early 00's. WCW Thunder, Frogger, QBert, Super Tetris and this one with various games possibly more. We can't play it as were missing a part.

2000: N64- My favorite. Mario World 64, Mario Kart 64, Diddy Kong Racing, Rugrats In Paris, Street Racing and Tony Hawk Pro Skating. I don't know what happens to it.

2003: Gamecube:- I had this for a short time. Sonic Greatest Hits and this game with a cop in Los Angelas, I really can't remember the title.

2009: Playstation 2- GTA: Vice City and San Andreas, a snow boarding game and Dead Rising: Chop Til You Drop.

I have also played XBox, Wii, Game Boy, Game Boy Color, a newer mini version of Atari and ovcourse PC games.

Our family did not get a video game system until 2008, however we later found out that my dad had left his SNES and his NES in storage, so we still have it! I will include that in my list.

1988 - My dad gets a NES
1992 - My dad gets a SNES
2008 - Our family gets a Wii. This was our main system until the XBOX and I still occasionally play it.
2009 - I get a Game Boy Advance and play the heck out of that thing.
2011 - Our family gets an XBOX 360. I played alot of games on this system and really like it. Currently see no reason to upgrade to a XBOX One yet.
2012 - I get a Nintendo 3DS.

Oh no I don't have them anymore cause we all live away from each other now. But I know what you mean. I had played a few of my ps1 games on their ps2's before.

If I get a new system it would either be ps2 or n64. The best two in my opinion. I guess those wouldnt really be new. I mean they would have to be at least slightly used. But I have though of getting a ps4. I just haven't had the money. Really I'm sure I wouldn't be playing it much as I don't game a lot like I used to. But at least I already know and love the games on the ps2.

1993 (Christmas): Sega Genesis
1997 (September): Nintendo 64
1997 (Christmas):: GameBoy Pocket (brother's)
1998 (Christmas?): GameBoy Color (brother's)
2001 (Spring?): PS2 (brother's -- I never played it much except for Kingdom Hearts)
2001 (June): GameBoy Advance
2001 (Christmas): GameCube
2002 (Summer): Super Nintendo
2004 (Christmas): Nintendo DS
2007 (Fall): Wii (brother's)

Thinking back, the space between getting GameBoy Advance and GameCube seemed a lot longer than 6 months, but I guess 6 months feels like a long time when you're 10-11. Then again, on the same note, it makes it all the more strange that for 4 years all we had was a Sega Genesis...and being 3-6 at the time, that was literally my entire remembered lifetime up to that point! It actually feels shorter than that,  but video games weren't as a big of a part of my childhood until we got N64 though so maybe that's why.
