I was born at a pretty cool time, right around the '70s/80s line (musically), and a month after MTV. There was alot of synthpop and AOR in '81.

Private Eyes - Hall and Oates
Endless Love - Lionel Richie and Diana Ross
No Reply At All - Genesis
Urgent - Foreigner
Arthur's Theme - Christopher Cross
Every Little Thing She Does is Magic - The Police
The Tide is High - Blondie
Ain't Even Done With the Night - John Mellencamp
Don't Stop Believin' - Journey
Trouble - Lindsey Buckingham

I'm sure there's many more, but if I were stranded on a desert island with only ten songs from my birth year, that's at least an idea of what I'd pick. ;)

Absolutely!! I agree. But I didn't know a great deal of it then, since I was in the single digits. Now I think I know about 600 songs that came out in the 80s (pop, R&B, rock, new wave, etc.).

To all the 70s kids, does anyone know who made a disco song called "Knock on Wood?" I LOVE that song!

That version of "Knock On Wood" was recorded by Amii Stewart.  The song itself is a cover of a 60s song.  :)

Nothing to do with the year I was born, but I'm gonna pound the table for Knock On Wood.

The original 1966 Eddie Floyd blues number stands on its own as solid soul/blues, but Amii Stewart got the ball rolling in 1978 (with at least 10-12 remixes out there), the heavy bass in the 1985 Sedition/Ash 48 remixes, the mindblowing full minute of phase effects about 3/4 of the way through the 6:00 Hot Tracks mix from ca. 1985, a respectable attempt at covering it by Mary Griffin for 1988's Studio 54 movie (presumably they didn't want to pay for the rights for the original?), Amii herself put a couple of 1999-style club/dance mixes on the aptly-named Unstoppable, and the 2004 cover by flash-in-the-pan Rachel Stevens have kept the song fresh.

Get any/all of the mixes you can find, but if you had to pick just three... just... umm.. if you had to pick just five... umm... dammit.

Look, if you like the track at all, you owe it to yourself to get all the mixes you can.  They're all subtly different, but all delightful.  Every remix of this track offers at least one surprise.  You could fill an entire audio CD with remixes of this song, put it on loop, and not fall asleep for days.

I know the original version (which was recorded by Eddie Floyd) very well. It has been a staple on oldies stations for a long time.

Once when that song was on a Penguin Quiz, I answered by giving the original version, but it was "not the artist that (the quiz starter) had in mind", so then I wrote, "Okay, Amii Stewart. But hers was a cover, and my local oldies radio station plays the heck out of the original."
