Subject: You know the actor, but do you know the name?

Written By: whistledog on 09/02/07 at 10:19 am

You ever watch a movie and see an actor that you've seen in lots of movies, but you have no idea what his/her name is?  Here are a few ...

- How about BOB GUNTON?
- Who?

http://www.dougmacaulay.com/kingspud/photos/bguntonb.jpg

Oh, that guy who played the warden in Shawshank Redemption.  I've seen him in all kinds of movies.  He usually plays an a$$hole :D

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

- Remember when the highly anticipated Dukes of Hazzard film came out and you probably wondered who played all the roles?  You saw this: "M.C. GAINEY as Roscoe P. Coltrane".  Who the hell is M.C. GAINEY?

http://img209.imageshack.us/img209/5783/6023gainey66655634150x2nj9.jpg

Of course, you will recognize him from countless action and thriller films.  I liked him in Con Air.  He was the perfect mean, ruthless hardened criminal

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

One of my favourites:  JAMES REMAR.  He's been in countless movies and TV show episodes, so I am sure you've seen him before

To me, his greatest role was the ruthless killer Ganz in '48 Hrs.'  That role ranks in my Top 5 of all-time greatest movie bad guys

I do this with people off the T.V in the U.K I keep seeing them at the train station then not having a clue who they are when I try to tell people so I have to go 'you know that bloke who plays the pathologist in Silent Witness or the bloke from that car ad' etc.  ;D

We just watched "Wild Hogs" last night, and I was trying to figure out who M.C. Gainey was.  He plays one of the bikers.  Thanks Jason!

Also, the ladies might know James Remar from his recurring role as Samantha's boyfriend in "Sex and the City."

I think he is a brilliant actor who's resume is probably longer than the Encyclopedia Britannica who most people don't even know his name.

Whenever they need a Native American with class and style they cast Graham Greene.  I love his eyes.  ::)

When in fact he's Native Canadian lol
Off hand, the only movie I can recall where he didn't play a native was in 'Die Hard: With A Vengance'

I liked him in the movie 'Maverick'

This actor has been in many movies and he was on Sex and the City and Northern Exposure but I never remember his name.

After looking him up on imdb I found out his name is John Corbett.

He is a good actor.  He was one of those actors who was seen in lots of stuff, but his name never really came into households until he co-starred in 'My Big Fat Greek Wedding', and his recurring role on 'Sex and the City'

I never watched Sex and the City, so I still had no idea who he was.  I mean I saw him in tons of things, just never knew his name and then I watched "Raising Helen" and the next night I saw "My Big Fat...." so I figured I should find out his name.

I'm trying to find the name of some actor who has been in lots of horror movies, he has blonde hair and his face looks like it's been burned/scarred...anyone have any idea of who I'm thinking of?  I know it's very little information.

I'm just gonna guess Rutgar Hauer....mostly because he's on my mind right now...

Anyone remember Joseph Maher?  You might not know him by name, but you certainly have seen this late Irish actor in something.  Perhaps the movies 'Funny Farm', 'My Step Mother is An Alien', 'Sister Act' or the TV series 'Anything But Love' ...

Younger photo of him.  Picture him a bit older with white hair

Here is Jere Burns.  Recognize him?  He is best remembered as Kirk on the sitcom "Dear John", but is also recognizable on the short-lived 90s sitcom called "Something So Right" and in the movie "Crocodile Dundee in Los Angeles"

Michael Cudlitz... I first became aware of him on 90210 but lately he has made appearances on practically every drama on the air.
He was also had a regular role on Standoff. I liked that show too bad it got cancelled too.

In this category, I always think of G.W Bailey, the man who plays Captain Harris in the Police Academy films. The man has been in quite a few films including Mannequin and Short Circuit.

He used to have a recurring role on 'M*A*S*H'.  Today, he can be seen in a co-starring role on the drama series 'The Closer' which stars Kyra Sedgewick (wife of Kevin Bacon)

Really? The man is totally underestimated. He was so brilliant as Captain Harris but I think he suffered with typecasting.

He did yes.  He's had lots of roles, but it's almost a given that whenever someone recognizes him, they wouldn't say things like "Hey, I loved you on Broadway in this role, or I loved you in that dramatic movie ...".  Instead, they'd say "Hey, aren't you Captain Harris?" LOL

G.W. Bailey played Capt. Harris in 5 of the 7 Police Academy films.  In Police Academy 2 and 3, it was Art Metrano as "Captain Mowzer"

That's right. In the film, Mannequin, he was bumbling security guard Felix Maxwell, though it wasn't a patch on the cruel Harris, lol. Metrano was a replacement for Bailey probably because he was filming Mannequin and Short Circuit around that time.

He's also in the TNT series The Closer with Kyra Sedgwick.

He even won an Oscar for the movie 'Adaptaion' and he's still not really a household name, though his face is easily recognizable, if not for 'The Bourne Identity' but for 'Adaptaion', 'Breach' or any of his other great roles 8)

I loved Harris' catch phrase.  "Move it! Move it! Move it!" ;D

He lives in Massachusetts in a small town where he moved to get help for his son who had cerebral palsy(he passed away). The people pretty much let him live a normal life and he is active in promoting special needs charities. A real gentleman.

Canadian TV and FIlm is full of faces familiar to almost every Canadian, but it seems that a lot of the time if they're not famous internationally, we don't know them by name.

It's really hard to think of any of them because like I said, I don't know their names and there are so many of them. But here is one:

http://www.scifistream.com/graphics/bournejr.jpg

J.R. Bourne

He's been in tons of Canadian stuff, in CSI, in NCIS. Two Canadian movies I have seen recently with him in it are The Favourite Game and Everything's Gone Green.

http://www.moviehabit.com/photos/girard03_150.jpg

There's one Quebec actor, Rémy Girard, who is very famous among French-Canadians (people often say 'he's in everything').

English-Canadians may know him from the film The Rocket, and from Mary Walsh's film Young Triffie's Been Made Away With. Just yesterday, I saw him in the CBC miniseries The Englishman's Boy.

I don't recall seeing either of them but I'm sure I have probably seen the first one in CSI he doesn't look familiar.
