Subject: The Accordion

What songs that you like contain the accordion?

This includes songs such as "All you need is love" and "God Only Knows".

At the moment, all I can think of is the 1988 hit Tango  by Lisa DalBello (to which she was just billed as Dalbello)

Wonderful use of an accordion.  Makes you feel like you are in France

The only one I can think of right now is "Biscaya" by James Last. Not a hit in UK or US, but it hit #5 in our charts in 1982.

Here's a link...Just some shots sets to the music.

Oh, and then there's this one... ::) It's currently in our charts.

I can think of two other songs, but they use a bandoneon, not an accordeon:

Bandoneon - The Sunclub (a Dutch #27)

and this more serious one..

Adios Nonino - Carel Kraayenhof (as played at the royal wedding in 2002. The song reached #2 in our charts)

Yes!  He has the best version of Bohemian Rhapsody I've ever heard.  The accordian rocks.

I'm also a huge They Might Be Giants fan, so anything they do with the accordian is wonderful, including their Polka "We Want A Rock".

Hmmm, I'm not sure (someone can help me) - did the Who's "Squeeze Box" feature an accordian at any point?

On Paul Simon's landmark Graceland album, the songs 'The Boy In The Bubble', 'Gumboots', and 'That Was Your Mother' all use accordian.  (That Was Your Mother has a Zydeco styling, a genre which uses accordian heavily.)

I think there must be a lot more accordian songs - I just have to think of 'em   ::)

(Edited to mention that I recognize I misspelled "accordion" four times here - OOPS)

I'll try to stick to what could be considered pop music here:

The Pogues: Sunnyside of the Street
(but a lot of great Pogues songs feature Jim Fearney's accordion)

Tom Waits: Singapore

Laurie Anderson: Night in Baghdad (accordion by the great Guy Klucevsek)

Andrea Parkins: What is Your Speech Problem?

I'm not 100% on this one, but I think the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band's big cover hit, "Mr. Bojangles", featured an accordion.

-Squeeze Box (The Who)

-Shaddap-a You Face (Joe Dolce)

-Istanbul Not Constaninople (They Might Be Giants)

-La Mucura (The Mavericks)

-12 Days Of Christmas, 'A' (The Mackensie Brothers)

"Upside-Down", "Everything's Changed", "I'd be that Girl", and "Everything old is New Again" are songs by the Barenaked Ladies that use the accordion.

I really hope the Barenaked Ladies have an unplugged concert.

'Untitled', the last song on The Cure's Disintegration album. I love it.
