Subject: Need help remembering cartoon name...

Hi all,
There was a cartoon show or movie I watched when I was younger (could be have been late 80's or early 90's) of which I absolutely cannot remember the name. It was about animals of some sort that travelled to other dimensions/worlds to help others. They travelled via doors that they could make appear, and I think I remember them using special keys to access them. I think I remember them masquerading as pets when not "solving mysteries" or whatever...
I know, I know, I'm really not giving a great deal of details on this, but I'd appreciate any insight any of you would be able to give me! This has been on my mind for a long time and I haven't found much to go on whilst scouring over youtube videos and random Internet sites...
Any help or direction would be fantastic!

The only thing that's coming to mind is Shirt Tales, but that was early / mid 80s.
