Subject: Movies You Have Watched So Many Times You Know ALL The Dialog

Written By: CatwomanofV on 11/16/08 at 3:03 pm

Yeah, you know what I mean. You turn on one of your favorite movies and you know it almost line per line but you still watch it, still enjoy it and even recite the lines.

For me:

1776
Casablanca
Trading Places
Crimes of Passion

I'm sure there are others but I'm drawing a blank right now. I'll probably add to my list in future posts.

At least 20 of them including but not limited to...

  Star Wars and it's sequels...
Raiders of the Lost Ark & Temple of Doom...
  Ghostbusters...
  Star Trek II
  All three Mad Max flicks...
  Becket
  Cool Hand Luke...
  The Breakfast Club...
  Ferris Bueller's Day Off...
  &etc...

I drive Jo nuts because I'm always preempting the dialogue...it's fun...and it's rare that I can ever talk her into watching any of those flicks with me...

My sister and I can quote the entire script to Sixteen Candles together in unison... one of our favorite movies, needless to say!  :D Also, A Christmas Story from so many repeated viewings!

my co worker and I used to play pretty woman all the time and quote it for accuracy the one with the most lines right won- loser had to buy dinner... I got a lot of dinners.

When I went to the theater to catch the rerelease of Dirty Dancing I was totally quoting the lines. My co worker (same on as above) had taken her daughter with us and she had her daughter sit next to me because she knew I'd be quoting the film.  I can't help it-its automatic!

we used to have the tv behind us so on graveyards I would put on Grease 2 and then turn my back to the TV so I could work on the computer. Then I would proceed to quote the film. People would come by and ask me what I was doing I told them I'm quoting it because I don't need to "watch" it anymore  ;D

oh there are certain episodes of Facts of Life I can quote
Some episodes of Buffy
and in addition to the Friends pilot I can do the Prom Video and the one with all the Poker  8)

Even though some people would think it was incredibly geeky (ah, hell it probably is ;D ), I don't think it's unusual to memorize movies. I think it works the same way a song does, where if you hear it enough times it just becomes fixed into your brain so you never have to think of the lyrics. Over time that can happen with movies too, especially since I've alwyas been one of those people who likes to watch stuff over and over again.

Almost any of the ones I first watched as a kid (in the early and mid '90s when i started liking movies) have stuck with me permanently, like:

Back to the Future (all 3, of course)
Ernest Saves Christmas
..Goes to Jail
..Scared Stupid
UHF (Weird Al's movie)
Caddyshack 2 (the tamer sequel with Jackie Mason and Robert Stack)
Honey I Blew Up the Kid
Police Academy 4
Uncle Buck

I'm trying to remember any movies that I might have completely memorized, some I know at least of over 50% of(some of the Police Academys and Cheech and Chong movies). I don't watch movies alot in general.

Did I ever tell my Big Daddy story here?

Occasionally, to quell boredom, I will recite random movie lines.

One day I was using the ATM and it seemed to be taking a bit longer than normal to process and I started reciting my favorite line from Big Daddy.....

"I wipe my own ass.  I WIPE MY OWN AAASSSSS!!!!!"  ;D

anywho- imagine my embarrassment when I finished my transaction, turned around, and found a man standing behind me.... I am certain this man had never seen Big Daddy and....well I think he thought I might be a wee bit challenged...  ;D

When I was a kid back in the late 1980s, we had a tape of the animated Transformers: The Movie that I watched so many times on VCR that I could recite the entire dialogue from memory. I can't do it anymore, though.

I would've been mortified if that were me. I think ambiguous movie lines like that are funniest, especially for people who don't know.

Surprisingly, only two movies and both have Bill Paxton in them (though I am not really a fan of his).

1.  Terminator I  - Bill Paxton (as a punk) to a naked Arnold - "Wash Day Tomorrow, Nothing Clean, Right?"  "Nothing, Clean, Right."

2.  Werid Science -  a hot Kelly LeBrock to Anthony Michael Hall and his buddy -  "So what would you little maniacs like to do first?"

Blues Brothers.  It was running in Melbourne for the better part of 15 years from the mid 80's to around 2000 in cinemas, firstly in Richmond and then Northcote.  We actually would dress up and change the words (so we really had to know the show)  Made some great friends out of it.
A bit like Rocky Horror (another show here I know all the words) but we were more "refined" ;D
"Are you the Police
No Mam,. we're Musicians"

But Blazing Saddles is close with knowing the words, along with Stripes

Hey Snoz.

To be honest, I'm not that fond of The Wiz. I do quote the line where Michael screamed "Now, get me down off of this here pole!" but to be honest, I haven't watched that movie in a good five years. LOL.  :-[ Not exactly a good spot on my MJ fan resume, but in the long run, I don't think my record is so bad. LOL. I have it on tape if it's any consolation.  ;D

hmmm, I guess I never saw this thread. I can think of a few films offhand which I don't know entirely by heart in terms of dialog, but they do come pretty close. In no particular order:

Sister Act
The Birdcage
Rush Hour
Rush Hour 2
Wedding Singer
Big Fat Liar
Max Keeble's Big Move
That Thing You Do
Parent Trap (the remake)
Home Alone
Home Alone 2 - Lost In New York

I've seen those on TV numerous times, but I like to watch parts of them again because the plots have been interesting to watch.

I love the Godfather & Godfather II as much as anyone, but sometimes my friend quotes the movies every time we get together, no matter what is going on, he'll find a quote from one of those movies and use it and most of the time it's ok, but sometimes it's overkill
