Subject: First concert you ever attended. Who did you see?

Written By: Frank on 05/17/09 at 1:29 am

The first concert I ever saw was a Canadian band called PRISM back in 1978 or 1979. I think I paid $5 to get in.

Only knew a couple of their songs at the time, but went with a bunch of other Grade 12 buddies.

Now you mention it, I seem to remember being driven to see Showaddywaddy (that's the name of the game lol) as a really young boy - so young that all I remember was the car journey. Weird!

The first concert I ever saw was not music.  In 1983, I saw beloved Canadian children's entertainer Mr. Dressup at Queens University in Kingston, Ontario.  He was on his "Tickle Trunk Tour"

A Flock Of Seagulls...in 1984!  :D

Oh, you're lucky!  I never got to see them while they were Flock proper.  Paul Reynolds quit the band after "Story of a Young Heart."  No Paul, no Flock.  Anybody who saw A Flock of Seagulls after that (as I did in 1988) was just seeing the Mike Score AFOS cover band!
::)

I suppose if I really pushed, I could have gone to see The Police with AFOS and the Fixx.  Heck, I could have gone to see Talking Heads that same summer, my sister's boyfriend had an extra ticket...but I was still somewhat shy about going to concerts.  In fact, the first real concert I want to wasn't until 11/16/85 at the Worcester Centrum to see Howard Jones w/ opening act Marshall Crenshaw.  I wish now I could say The Talking Heads was my first!

I can compete - Samantha Fox in 1989.  I went because I was old enough to drive and my friend who had tickets wasn't. :P :D

Here's what I wrote back then:

Megadeth in 1999. The only concert I've ever been to, actually.

Some guy gave me a head butt in the mosh pit. I could feel it down to my teeth.

Springsteen in 1988 or '89. For some reason my mom didn't go or couldn't at the last minute so my dad took me.

Heck I was like Mike Seaver from Growing Pains (and just didn't know it yet).;D

I know there have been many of those over the years, which year did you go?  Was it '86? That was the show Def Leppard played and it was Rick Allen's first performance since losing his arm-I have that one on DVD.  I would have given anything to be at that show! I've actually seen most of the bands that were there that day at different times and places, except I don't know who Bad News was.

I saw Megadeth at least 8 or 9 times back in the 90's.  The most memorable show was Clash of the Titans out at the Bonneville Salt Flats near Salt Lake City.  They were there with Anthrax, Alice in Chains and Slayer.  The whole place was one big mosh pit and there were metal chairs flying until they were all gone. Then when Megadeth finally came on the skies got really dark and Dave Mustaine dared it to rain and it did.  That was the first time I got rained on at a concert and there was no where to get out of it. I just decided what the heck and had fun.  After the show we got to meet Dave Mustaine and Nick Menza.  They signed my ticket and I got pics with them.  I still love their old stuff, but the band has changed members too many times for me.  Once Nick was out, I tolderated the next cd, but I guess Dave is still plugging along with whoever now.
