Subject: When did the 'modern era' start?

Around when would you say 'modern times' started? For example, what decade would you say is so far removed from our own--technologically, socially, culturally, etc--that it could be considered "pre modern"?

It depends on the discipline. In World History, generally with the Industrial Revolution/Enlightment c. 1760. In US History, generally after WWII. In architecture, during the 1920s. For painting and sculpture, around the 1890s. For symphonic/classical music, around 1900 with the end of the Romantic era. Then there is the notion of being "postmodern" where development has peaked and is sort of recapitulating the past through nostalgia, minimalism, etc. Some say that happened as early as around the end of WWII, many say the mid-1960s, and some say that were still in modernity.
