Subject: Georgia is taking steps to join the 20th century!

Written By: Tarzan Boy (Guest) on 05/04/02 at 11:48 p.m.

Taylor County in Georgia is going to have their first integrated prom!!! :) Seriously, they actually had segregated dances for white and "coloured" kiddies up until now. Isn't this great? This could prove to be beneficial - perhaps they can start dating outside of the family...hey! badah BING badah BOOM hey! 8)

Actually, this has made me think. Last month, when they had things segregated there, where did the rest of the kiddies go? Like the Chinese or the Hispanics or whatever other alien folk that plagues this country - what dance did get to attend? If Jennifer Lopez and John Leguizamo were dating back then, for example, would they buy prom tix for the white section or the coloured section? Or did this depend on what part of Latin America and Europe one can trace their heritage? Skin tone? Would Italians and Spaniards get the same treatment as Mexicans? I haven't done much reading on this, so I am genuinely interested on whatever info or annecdotes some of you guys and gals may have on this strange and stupid phenomenon of the past and present...

Well, I can't speak for Georgia, but in Mississippi we even let black people use the same restrooms and eat in the same restaurants as us white folks!  :D

Hey, a response! Actually, I've been thinking. The show I Love Lucy had Lucy married to this hispanic dude with a heavy accent (in English and Spanish). Plus they were married in real life, even though Desiderio "Desi" Arnaz was a major-league a-hole to Lucille Ball. I'm surprised NBC didn't get any death threats seeing as to how this was an interracial marriage. I take it hispanics had a choice as to whether they would attend the white or coloured events. That's kind of cool. I mean, if the white folks are listening to Glenn Miller...I might perhaps join the coloured folk and listen to the more edgier jazz junk...

I saw this on the news the other night.  I can't believe that segregation is still so blatently alive!  I mean, I know there's a lot of ignorant people in the world who still believe that segregation should still be foremost in our minds, but crap, I am amazed that a civil liberties group hasn't been all over that!
