Subject: Crazy Don's short 1960's lyrics quiz!

Written By: Crazy Don on 05/10/02 at 09:36 a.m.

Here's another short lyrics quiz.  The answers will appear underneath each lyric line as soon as a correct answer is given.  Here goes:

1.  My social life's a dud/My name is really mud
The Music Machine--Talk Talk

2.  He spoke to me, I took his flute
Bob Dylan--I Want You

3.  My independence seems to vanish in the haze
The Beatles--Help!

4.  And Mr. Green/He's so serene/He's got a TV in every room
The Monkees--Pleasant Valley Sunday

5.  Give me Norfolk, Virginia, Tidewater four-ten-oh-nine
Chuck Berry--Promised Land

6.  All the squares go home!
Sly & the Family Stone--Dance to the Music

7.  But your wide-eyed innocence has really messed up my mind
Bobby Vee--Come Back When You Grow Up

8.  Paranoia strikes deep/Into your life it will creep
Buffalo Springfield--For What It's Worth

9.  'Cause she can't keep her foot off the accelerator
Jan & Dean--The Little Old Lady from Pasadena

10.  Well, I've got this need I just can't control and it's driving me insane
Paul Revere & the Raiders--Hungry

Now that we have gotten all the correct responses, it's time for a bonus question.  And here it is:

Besides "Twist & Shout," what other song contains the line "Shake it up baby/Twist and shout"?

(We had only one attempt at answering it, and since it's been a week, I'm going to answer it for you.)

Bobby Freeman--C'mon & Swim

(It's an oldie you don't hear every day.)

This quiz is now over.  Sorry.

OK, I'm going to give you some hints.

1.  This was by a one-hit wonder group.  In the 1980's a song by the same title hit the charts--and the act that did the song had the same name as the song.  But it was not the same song.

5.  I know you know the title, but do you know who did the song first?  He's a founding father of rock & roll.  He spent time in prison in the early 1960's on moral charges.  His biggest hit and only chart topper came in 1972 with an off-color novelty song recorded live in England at a concert.

7.  This was a comeback for a teen idol who shot to fame after replacing Buddy Holly on the tour that took Buddy's life.  However, he really did not have any more hits after this one.

10.  The group that did this song is the subject of a thread on this board by Rock & Roll Fan.  This was their other hit written by Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil.

1. "Talk Talk" by Alice Cooper.

7. "Come Back When You Grow Up" by Bobby Vee.

OK, so you got the title of #1 right, but not the artist.  (Was Alice's song a cover of the original I'm seeking?)

Since it's been a week since I gave you a bonus question and only one person attempted to answer it, I will now give you the correct answer.

The question was,

Besides "Twist & Shout," what other song contains the line "Shake it up baby/Twist and shout"?

The answer is:

C'mon & Swim by Bobby Freeman.

It's not an oldie you hear every day…
