Subject: Frankie Sinatra or Dean Martin?

Written By: Arcfire on 05/26/02 at 08:09 p.m.

Again, some old time singers but still left an impression on all of us. Who did you like to listen to and what songs? Frankie Not-so-hotra or Dean "drink" Martin?  ;D

For me I have to say Dean Martin.. I swear everytime I hear "That's Amore" I think of an Italian restaurant that played that everytime we ate there... Not sure if he first sang this song but Wham Bam Thankyou maam is a saying we all know (if for the wrong reasons)   ::)

Definately Dean Martin. I was madly in love with him at the age of 6 and had his picture on my mirror. My parents had three of his albums and I listened to them constantly. I always begged to stay up and watch his show, but very rarely was allowed to--it came on at 10 p.m. on a school night. I was so very sad when he passed away--part of my childhood vanished.  :'(

I never had any interest in Frank Sinatra. But I did like one of his records: "Something Stupid."

I guess, if I had to choose I'd go with Dean Martin, but I'm more of an instrumental lounge-type: Mancini, Conniff, Morricone, Esquivel, Getz, etc.

I've always viewed Sinatra as the biggest sleaze who ever lived.  Sorry, but I really, really hated him, there was just something about him that got on my nerves.

Hence, I think I'll go with Dean Martin, although he wasn't much better.  Their style of music just seemed very boring and uninspired, give me 60s and 70s rock, soul and r n b any day.

Sinatra got on my nerves, too.  I wouldn't go so far as to say I hated him, though.  I always thought he seemed like he thought he was it on a platter...better than everyone.

Dean Martin, on the other hand I loved.  Who can forget him and Sammy Davis Jr in Cannonball Run.  He was a great comedian.  Then there is Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis.  He seemed more accessible than Sinatra.

Going solely on the music - sleaze and ego notwithstanding - I have to say Sinatra.

As for favorite songs:

"The Lady is a Tramp"

"I've Got You Under My Skin"

"My Kind of Town"

and of course... "New York, New York"

As for hating him, nah. I've got more positive outlets for my energy.

Frank Sinatra  :)

"My Way"
"Nice 'N Easy"
"Come Fly with Me"
"Night and Day"
"All the Way"

So many more. I think he had tremendous talent both as a singer and actor.

Frankie acted in movies and toured 'til he was in his 80s!! That's an amazing career.....

Deano was cool too though....

So, I probably prefer Dean's tuneage but I gotta go with Frankie on longevity and success....

He asked who the fool was in the corner cryin'...I said it's little ol' wine drinker me

I would go with Frank Sinatra only because in his movies he doesn't profess to be attractive to all females. Unlike Deano.  Also I can recall how Australia got up his nose on one of his much earlier visits in the country. He boycotted us for quite a while. Cannot recall the reason though.

Australia boycotted Frank Sinatra, Reddy.

He held a press conference and referred to all the female journalists as 10 cent prostitutes, or some such thing.

The the unions all got up in arms and wouldn't refuel his private jet, and he was a prisoner inside his own hotel room for days.  Ha !

He still didn't apologise in the end - he didn't return for about 25 years or so after that....

Deani Martini.  He was just soooooooo suave and deboner...(not a typo) he really cracked me up.  He was looped 99% of the time on his TV show....how he made it thru a taping was beyond me....

He had the endearing quality of not taking himself too seriously. Hope the olives are stuffed in Heaven, big guy!

I didn't really know that Dean Martin sang I thought he only acted. I have only heard one song from him. But I would have to go with Frankie. He was very handsom when he was young.

Neither! Never liked either one of them (even though I do like a couple of their songs.)

Choosing between the 2, I would have to say Dean.  But my top votes for this genre of music would be Tony Bennett and Harry Connick Jr.

Frank Sinatra, but I like them both! (my cousin got me hooked on "oldies") I would only give a slight edge to Frank because I know more songs of his.

"My Way"
"Chicago"
"All the Way"
"Someone to Watch Over Me"

are my favorites

I like Harry Connick Jr and Tony Bennett, too, Julie!

gotta say its old blue eyes.In fact on Robbie Williams "Swing While Your Winning" cd, Thanks to modern technology and the blessings of the sinatra estate, he was able to a duet with Franky, on the atmospheric night club worthy song, " it was a very good year " Robbie does the fist two verses and Frank does the final two, its truly a beautiful song, so yeah go Frank Sinatra.

For me it is Dean Martin...Much more sexy sounding...and for the records, Dean was not an alcoholic...that was just in the act which got out of hand...
