Subject: Anyone Remember Mystery Date?

You know? The cheesy "girls'" game where they ask you will (your date) be a dream (oooh!) or a dud (ugggh!). And they open the door to the mystery date. Wasn't that the stupidest game? I can't believe it could pass for killing time by today's standards. What did you think?

I have to agree! I really really wanted that game, because they made it sound so fun in the commericials. Then I finally got it and it was really really lame...::)

Yes, I saw it featured on an episode of That 70's Show where Jackie, Donna & Leo were playing it!

It features on The Simpsons...

Oh, why do we have to play this corny old game anyway?
Because it was the only one in the house. Come on Homer, open the door for your Mystery Date.
Ooh, captain of the football team. He's a dream boat. Don't wait up Marge.
...
Heh, you got the dud!
Hey, he looks just like you, Poindexter

From Summer of 4'2"

That's all that I am aware I know about it.

Over here, it was called 'Blind Date', then later is was called 'The Match Game'

Both equally atrocious.....

But as fate would have it, they both ran for years..... ::)

Think yourself lucky - on this side of the world it is still called "Blind Date" with Cilla "doncha luv 'er, chook" Black and has to be THE worst bit of television programming, ever.  My children (the elder two, anyway) love it.  AAARRRGGHHHH!!!

Just think of it as 1 hour of sitting down not getting disturbed by children, but by Cilla's "oo, 'ow are ye, chuck" and whatever else. That's gotta be better than nothing.

...except that there's still two children who *don't* sit down and watch... and it's mainly Cilla's voice that drives me up the wall, makes me want to put a shotgun up her nose and say "Surprise, surprise!" before letting go with both barrels.  Unfortunately, it'd still probably miss her brain.

I was wondering what they were talking about!

Back to Mystery Date; my friends and I always thought that the "dud" looked a lot more interesting than the regular guys. I mean, I recall one of the dates was standing there with a bowling bag! Yeah, just what I want to do with my dream date!

There is probably something quite psychological going on here -- maybe it explains why I ended up with so may "duds" in real life.... ::)

My sister and I had a "Mystery Date" game. We loved it. I remember the guy in the tux and one in 1960's beach attire but what did the duds look like? I can't remember.
