Subject: bubblegum funk:

I was just wondering how come African-Americans never made"bubblegum"music? And it was always the guys like Monkees,Brady Bunch,Tommy Roe,Spiral Starecase,etc...Did the Jackson 5 ever made bubblegum music or was it just considered disco,R & B at that specific time?(1971).I think after the bubblegum era came the funk & disco era(1971 and on...)What do you think of this new invention era,"BUBBLEGUM FUNK"?Sounds cheesy! :D  -howard-

I would think that the Jackson 5 were bubblegum. Many people put them in the same boat as the Osmonds, because their songs sounded similar.
I remember when the press was trying to promote the New Kids on the Block as "the next Beatles", and I thought - UH,UH! If they were the "next" anything, they were the "next" Osmonds or Jackson 5.
I think the idea of "bubblegum funk" music would be pretty neat. The closest thing I can think of giving that name to would probably be Fat Albert.

Speaking of which:
I hope somebody comes out with an album or box set of every song recorded by Fat Albert & the Junkyard Band.

The Jackson 5 were bubblegum ;D Not exactly funk either LOL
Ever since I saw the title of this post all that runs through my head is stuff like N'SYNC's version of "We got the funk" or Tiffany trying to do "Proud Mary" ;D
