Oh, you mean the worst group of the sixties?

I remember them.

..you are my candygirl... and you got me...

Sorry. Yes, I have heard of them, and I probably regret it. Interestingly, though, both Ellie Greenwich and Dave Barry were in the group at various times. (They also wrote with Phil Spector, who Todd Rundgren was a fan of). Anyway, I digress. Yeah, I've heard that one song, but who hasn't?

Their original singer was a Canadian named Andy Kim (real name Baron Longfellow...there's that Longfellow thing again...) who later had a solo hit called "Rock The Boat"...

I went to an oldies fest this summer.  Andy Kim was there....the man was wearing leather pants in the middle of July.  It was frightening.  His voice has held up, though.

Yes.  I liked their music.  I went to a concert in Sacto in August 2002 and Andy Kim was there.  Apparently he wrote Sugar Sugar.  He was still pretty good.

Me again.  I think they also did Bang Shang-A-Lang and Jingle Jangle.  Say what you want--I still enjoy that bubble gum sound.  I'm 59 years young.  RE that summer concert in Sacto:  Gary Lewis has no business performing anymore--what a horrible voice--it's totally gone.  Even the other performers there knew it and mentioned it.  He should retire and go to Vegas with his dad (if he's in Vegas).  Perhaps the best thing about that summer concert was that tall blonde in the slinky and revealing dress who apparently loved to parade back and forth for the crowd.  Several times her nipples popped out the side of her dress--she (and we) loved it.  If you went to the concert, you couldn't miss that.

I love SUGAR, SUGAR. I am a composer and love how it adds layers and layers, without anything being drowned out.

Without implying anything about anyone on this message board, I would like to point out that some people don't like a certain kind of innocent happiness. That's why they denounce disco as well.

I like Sugar-Sugar alot but I don't know any of their other songs.  In fact, I thought SS was early '60s?

I've probably heard many many worse bands from the sixties.  I just never found out their names.

Wait, thought of one.  Bobby Goldsboro.  *shudder*

I heard somewhere that the guy who sang for the Archies also sang under many different names. He did a song called "Tracy" (I can't remember the name he went under) and if I remember correctly, he also did "Pina Colata" under the name of Rufus Holmes. Don't quote me on that.
