Subject: Dr Smith from Lost In Space has died

Written By: FussBudgetVanPelt on 11/05/02 at 00:00 a.m.

Another one

Jonathon Harris, who played Dr Zachary Smith in the 60's TV series of Lost In Space, has died from a blood clot in his heart.

He was originally cast as a serious villain, but his character quickly transformed into a more of a comic wimp.....

He was well known for some of his sayings :

Oh, the pain, the pain.....

We're doomed !

Or for abusing the Robot (in those days abusing meant just yelling at).....

Thanks for the info.  I thought about Lost In Space about 3 weeks ago.  Was kinda hoping someone would do a "Where are they now" on it.

"Lost in Space" was my favorite show when I was a kid. We used to play it in school and I had to be Penny. If I wasn't Penny, I didn't want to play. I think one time I ended up being Judy and I was sooooo upset.  I hear Bill Mumy from time to time on Dr. Demento (he is part of Barnes and Barnes who did the song "Fish Heads.") It is sad about Jonathon Harris though.

I remember him mostly as Commander Gampu from "Space Academy". I also know him as the guest star on the "Sanford & Son" episode about the 1600's toilet. Any way you remember him, he was a great guy and will be missed.

One other quote of his I remember: "Never fear, Smith is here." I really used to love Lost in Space as a kid. I wonder where the rest of the cast is, if they are alive. I liked the guy who played the second in command the best. I wonder if Bill Mummy is still alive? At any rate, it is sad to learn another actor from my childhood is dead.  :'(

The quote I remember is "You ninny." lol    Bill Mumy is alive and well singing as half of Barnes and Barnes.
