Subject: Worst '60's TV shows

Written By: Jose Ramos (Guest) on 03/08/03 at 08:16 p.m.

I want to know what's people think about these shows:

1. "The Flying Nun"
A cheesy show starred Sally Field as an airborne novice.
I saw it and It had some good episodes. Like where Sister Bertrille was sleep flying and the love sick pelican.
TV Guide named this the 42nd worse tv show of all time.
I semi agree. It's neither bad or good.

2. "Gilligan's Island"
A popular sitcom...most of you probably have seen this.

3. "Hogan's Heroes"
Never saw it,but TV Guide listed it as the 5th worst show
of all time. (NO OFFENSE TO "Hogan's Heroes" FANS)

4. "My Mother the Car"
Picture "Knight Rider" with KITT as Michael Knight's care taker instead of it's partener.

5. "The Andy Griffith Show"
I don't like this show. It's too boring!

6. "The Beverly Hillbillies"
So dumb that it makes "Fastlane" look like an Emmy winning show.

7. "My Three Sons"
Gag Me With A Spoon! (what a valley girl might say)

My vote would have be the Brady Bunch (or as we used to call it the "Bratty Punks") even though I used to watch it a lot when I was a kid. Now, I can't stomach it.

I would "semi-agree" because it aired during the fall of 1969,but probably wasn't popular until the 1970's. Who knows?
Not many shows were popular during the first season. I might be wrong.

I don't know why, but I never liked "Gilligan's Island".

Unlike Hairspray, I loved Gilligans Island.  I still love it.  To me it is a nice escape from the real world even if it is only for 1/2 hour.

Gee, if they were so awful, how come 6 out of those 7 are still in syndication?

Because some of these shows are  used as "fillers" for the TV Land schedule. Who in the world would want to stay up in 12:00 AM (coming back in April at 11:30) to watch "The Flying Nun"?

As for "Gilligan's Island" & "Andy Griffith Show", they have a strong fan base of baby boomers, classic tv fans, and some
children. (I'll admit that I loved watching re-runs of the campy '70's show "The Brady Bunch",but I never liked "Gilligan's Island".)

A lot of my friends  finds "Hogan's Heroes" very offensive.
And that was before the "TV Giude 50 Worst TV Shows" issue
was out. "The Flying Nun" was also listed amonst the 50 worst shows. And I only watch that when there's nothing else on. The same for "V.I.P." and Comedy Central.
I never saw "Hogan's Heroes",but I know it's like "Gilligan's Island" on a POW camp. As for "The Flying Nun", It's very cheesy. Have you (the reader) seen it? It'll return on TV Land on April.  Even Sally Field dislikes the series.

Not everybody likes these shows.
3/7 shows on the list were listed on the "TV Guide's 50 Worst TV Shows" issue.
I'm not trying to put bad judgement on these shows.
I just want peoples' opinion about these shows. Not a lot of people like Deborah Gibson, but I listen to her music any way.

Do you ever wonder why "The Jerry Springer Show", TV Guide's # 1 worst show of all time, is still on air. Along with "Fastlane",a blatant "Miami Vice" rip-off, "T.R.L." featuring dull host Carson Daily & awful current pop music, "MTV The Real World", the blame for the "reality" genre, "The Man Show",featuring  a bunch of sick minded dorks, and "The Anna Nicole Show"...enough said... are still on the air?

You may not not ike some of THESE shows, but they are popular amongst it's fan base or audience. 8)

BTW, I wrote that "The Flying Nun" is neither a good or bad
show. I'll admit that I watched a couple of episodes.

Why I consider "The Flying Nun"  cheesy?

1. offbeat premise

2. Sister Bertrille (Sally Field) & Carlos Remirez has
a similar relationship as Al & Peg Bundy from
"Married...With Children",a great show. ;D

3. "Carlos" reminds me of rapper P. Diddy or
Puff Daddy...playboy/religious freak

4. "Mother Superior" mirrors Anne Robinson from
"The Weakest Link"

5. My girlfriend, who claims to be a Sally Field fan,
can't stand watching this show.

6. It's so cheesy...It's like a music video from Journey!
(No offense to fans of Journey)

7. Sally Field sang on the show. Her voice sounded like
Tiffany with a cold.

8. Even if Deborah Gibson dubbed Sally Field's voice,
It'll still be a cheesy show.

9. Deborah Gibson wasn't even born yet during the
show's run!!! On an interview, she claimed to be an "All In The Family" fan. A real classic show.

10. I'd prefer  watching "Gidget"

The 1960's was a simpler time?
Not what I heard in 10th grade history class.

"Hogan's Heroes" was very politically incorrect.
Don't get me wrong, I'm a fan of "sleazy" shows like
"Married...With Children", "Seinfeld","South Park", and "V.I.P."
I only like "well written" smut. No "Springer" for my viewing.

I wouldn't call it "sleaze". I call it cuttin' edge.  8)

I'd prefer "Miami Vice" than some putrid garbage like "The Andy Griffith Show"!
Crokett & Tubbs can arrest Sister Bertrille & Carlos for the name of good taste and Carlos smuggling "substance" in the convent San Tanco. And Vanity (as a minister) lures  Sister Bertrille to explain about how many drugs the people who created "Bewitched", "Addams Family", "Gilligan" Island" took!

STATS:

Miami Vice = 100  The Flying Nun = 0

So the kickin' Miami cops will soon bust "Fastlane" for copyright infringement!
"Cheers" is not my cup of tea,but It was well written.

All I'm saying, these shows are complete nonsense!!!

Disclaimer: The actor who played "Carlos" was South American. And Sally Field is caucasion.

I wasn't trying to stereotype people.

If you're familiar with cop shows, It would happen in real life by any wrong doer of any race, creed, religion, etc.

And Sister Bertrille had been arrested many times on the show!!! Even her playboy/ casino owning friend.
And NOT everybody did drugs in the 1960's.

:) Apologies accepted

NO OFFENSE TO the Catholic religion!

"The Flying Nun" is a difficult show to poke fun at without being political correct.

This is it. Write many posts as you want.

I'll no longer be harsh to classic TV.

I also like "Bewitched", "Green Acres","Gidget", & "The Addams Family".

So, don't get me wrong and viewing me as an "anti Classic TV" person.

Not everybody likes the same thing. (not to sound corny)

Awful show yes, but I always try to catch the reruns because I've been in the house it was filmed in several times (I knew the people who lived there). It was haunted, BTW.... :D

:D :DHi,Jose!I would say that the 60s were simpler times than today! As for "Hogan's Heroes"being politically incorrect, did you know that the guy who played Colonel Klink is Jewish?(and still with us,BTW).Obviously in real life he favored the Allies, and in his contract it was stipulated that Klink can't end up being th e"winner".Otherwise he wouldn't have done the show.Cheers!

"Bewitched" was well written & Elizabeth Montgomery was great as Samantha. Rumor has it that Nicole Kidman will play the role in a movie remake! I hope It'll capture the same magic (no pun intended) as the tv show.
And "Green Acres" was like "Sienfeld" + "Beverly Hillbillies",despite that it was a spin off. Both of their lead characters are considered themselves normal, but are around interesting, but funny characters. I read the similarities on the "Jump The Shark" website and agreed. I'm not much of a fan of "I Love Lucy",but she did paved the way for female comedians. :)

I can definitely see Nicole Kidman as "Samantha". She must have the blond hair for the part though. :) No blond, no Samantha.

I enjoyed "Bewitched" very much.

Another show I also liked was "I Dream Of Jeanie".

Unfortunately,he's deceased. Source: IMDB  :(

I already knew that he was Jewish. I did research on "Hogan's Heroes" after the infamous "50 Worst..." TV Guide issue came out. The idea of a Second World War POW camp being a sitcom ,in my opinion, is distasteful. One of my friends, who've seen this vintage turkey, told me it had similar jokes like "Gilligan's Island".  :P

Marian, do you approve Eminem? Well, in 2001 he peformed with Elton John in The Grammy Awards. It proved that he's not homophobic, but many members of GLAAD disagreed.

Point being?

So a cast member from "Hogan's Heroes" who played a nazi was Jewish won't change my opinion about the show.

BTW, I wouldn't care if Eminem was a fan of this show.
(no offense to Emenem fans)

Werner Klemperer was an extremely brilliant man. He refused to play Col. Klinck UNLESS the character was a total dufuss. The guy was such a great actor that you thought that he was also as stupid as Col. Klinck was, but he was just the oposite. It is sad that he is no longer with us.
