Subject: The Beatles Cartoon

Written By: AstringOfPoloponies on 05/03/03 at 01:59 p.m.

When I was aged 6 to 10, I used to watch The Beatles Cartoon. Anyone else here remember this from 1965 -1969 ??I haven't seen an image from it in 32 years !

Yup-I remember that. I do believe they were the first band to have their own cartoon-then it never stopped. The Osmonds and the Jacksons also had there own cartoon.  ::)

I wasn't around when it was aired the first time (even if I was, I don't think it was ever shown in the UK at the time..)

Until...

For some unknown reason, some enterprising TV show did actually show some of the cartoons extremely late at night in the 1980's! Bizarre! Since then, neither hide nor hair has been seen of the cartoons on UK TV...shame!

If memory serves, didn't they use to have "sing-a-long" type lyrics across the bottom of the screen when the obligatory Fabs' songs were played?

All the best!

I used to see these circa mid-to-late 70s, at which point they had to have been reruns. I think they showed them on the higher numbered stations in the Detroit area like channel 20 and 50, which at the time were not part of networks.

I was a born-too-late (born 1964) Beatlemaniac, so I enjoyed watching these.

Always wondered if the voices were the real Beatles. Think they were always real cooperative, none made fun of the others, remember any episodes?

The Beatles toon was on ABC-TV here in the States for it's original run, around 1965 or 1966. I used to love it! That's how a 6-year-old kid became a Beatlemaniac! The kid was yours truly. Someone on another ISP's message board said the toon had "racist" overtones, that's why it's rarely seen anymore. I saw nothing racist, what was this person talking about?

I remember the "Ringo" character having a very distinctive, and goofy, sounding laugh. It came out sounding like "Uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-yeah!". Everytime "Ringo" laughed,I laughed out loud!  :D I don't think the Monkees had their own cartoon show. However I do remember the Brady kids having their own cartoons. It was just the six Brady kids. The  parents, and Alice, were not in these animated episodes. By the way, does anybody recall the "Pebbles and Bamm Bamm" show which depicted Pebbles and Bamm Bamm as hippy high school students? Thanks for the memories! Sincerely,Steve. :)

Oh boy, does THAT ever sound godawful!  BTW, "hippie" refers to an adherent to the counterculture, whereas "hippy" referes to wide in the waist.  At least that's how I've always seen it.
Wasn't there also a Monty Python cartoon?  I never saw it, but I heard it referred to as "the bungling Pythons make a mess out of everything."  Very dumb, apparently.
I have an Idea for a cartoon series, "Seinfeld Kids."  You could have kid versions of Jerry, George, Kramer, Elaine, Newman, and the rest of them.  They could all be growing up and getting in trouble in the same NYC neighborhood, trying to deal with their crazy parents, idiotic school teachers, pupp-love crushes and so forth.  I would be an easy transition since the point on Seinfeld was that they all acted very un-adult in the first place! :P

The Jackson 5 cartoon was cool because it was funny and had all their hits on it! Of course I'd sing along. Some of the J5's songs STILL sound great!
