Hi graphicboss...

"Drift Away" was the entire concoction (words & music) of a guy called Mentor Williams - about which I know nothing further!

Excellent song tho' - strangely never charted here!

All the best!

Is that the one that goes " something something save your soul... something something rock and roll... and drift away..."? ???

Day after day I'm more confused
So I look for the light in the pouring rain
You know that's a game that I hate to lose
I'm feelin' the strain, ain't it a shame

Oh, give me the beat, boys, and free my soul
I wanna get lost in your rock and roll and drift away
Oh, give me the beat, boys, and free my soul
I wanna get lost in your rock and roll and drift away

Beginning to think that I'm wastin' time
I don't understand the things I do
The world outside looks so unkind
I'm countin' on you to carry me through

And when my mind is free
You know a melody can move me
And when I'm feelin' blue
The guitar's comin' through to soothe me
Thanks for the joy that you've given me
I want you to know I believe in your song
Rhythm and rhyme and harmony
You help me along makin' me strong

*You'll know where the chorus goes ;)

Of course that's the part that stuck in my mind all these years. What great memories , evoking a time, place and age ! ;)

And now the "bad" version: "F*** all the people and f*** their souls/F*** this s*** they call rock-n-roll/Now get away!".

Quoting:

Oh, give me the beat, boys, and free my soul
I wanna get lost in your rock and roll and drift away
Oh, give me the beat, boys, and free my soul
I wanna get lost in your rock and roll and drift away

End Quote

Seriously, though, thanks for clearing that up. I could never tell if it was saying "Gimme the people, let them free my soul" or "Gimme the people as in free my soul". I now know that it says neither.
