Subject: What were you doing the day of the Moon Landing ?

Written By: FussBudgetVanPelt on 12/28/03 at 07:59 a.m.

For those of us old enough to remember...

Did you see it on TV ?

I was 7 years old at the time, and I didn't, and it is something that has always puzzled me, as my father was an Engineer, and he was into scientific and technical stuff......

So, did you see it, and do you remember what you were doing that day and where you were ?  :)

I vaguely remember it, I remember we had a storm the night before and the electric had went out but it was on by the time we watched it on tv the next day. I can still see the images but being only 8 yrs old at the time it really did not seem like such a big deal.

I was almost 10 years old and sitting in the store room of Belmont State School watching it with the rest of the school (about 90 kids all up) on a piddly little black and white TV.  I remember going home and telling the family at dinner and my father said "what a lot of rot".  He never believed that the yanks ever really got there :o

I was 6 and I have a hazy recollection of my mother sitting me down in the room with the TV on my grandmother's old rocking chair to watch it but I was pretty nonplussed with the whole thing. I guess at that age I was more impressed by Doctor Who. I find it odd that the footage is very rarely shown on TV these days, even on anniversarries like the 30th. Conspiracy theorists say that this is because the footage is fake and the modern TV audience will be far more adept at spotting the low quality special effects used in the production.

I was 7 years old and living in the little country town of Emerald Queensland where TV was still a thing of the future.  I was at home with Mum and Dad sitting around the radio listening to some American accents.  I couldn't figure out what all the fuss was about, but I knew it was spectacular for all the grownups.

Well, this 10 year old can give you the synopsis of her whole day, thanks to a rather uninspired dairy entry:

"July 20. Sun. Went to Sunday School. Practiced for program. Stayed home all afternoon and played with my dollhouse. Went to program and said my verse. Did all right. Watched the astronauts walk on the moon."

::)

Hey, no spelling mistakes even! :D

There's one small step for Zella-kind... ;D

I was not quite 5 years of age, and I imagine I was at pre-school that day.  I think I was blissfully unaware that it was even happening. ;D

Imagine reading "Fun with Dick and Jane" when you could have been watching "Fun with Neil and Buzz"  8)

I was 6 years old. My mother told me that there were men on the moon and I ducked-thinking they were right on top of us-on the roof or something. The next day, I remember being outside and seeing moon (in the day time) and thinking, "Wow, there are men up there." My sister got a pennent marking the day (July 20, 1969) that she put up on her wall. I stared at pennent and the date on it a lot for many years so that date is forever etched in my mind.

Well I guess I kicked my mum a few times, slept a bit, maybe sucked my thumb.  Who knows I may have pushed the boat out and swallowed some amniotic fluid to celebrate!  I was born just over a month later.

My older brothers, then aged 6 and 3, do remember watching it on TV.  They also had a jigsaw that Christmas with a picture of the "small step for a man" moment.  I think that was the year they had white cotton 'spacesuits' and plastic helmets as well

Hey, I thought the moon landing was a hoax!  ;)

I was an infant at the time but I had some relatives who recorded the event off the tv onto cassette and gave it to me.

I was 12 at the time, and I remember just sitting and watching in amazement. Oddly, I was the only one home at the time; I don't know where everyone else was.

I was in Dayton, OH at my cousins' house, and we ran outside to look at the moon, but it was daytime ::)

Probably crying and soiling myself.  I was four months.  You know what I'll be doing when humans land on Mars?  Crying and soiling myself. ;D
