Written By: CurtisLowe on 02/08/04 at 04:54 p.m.

I grew up on Elvis music and movies even tho I was born in the 70's. Here's my list of fav's :

King Creole - A++
It Happened at the World's Fair - A+
Kid Galahad- A+
Change of Habit - B
Love Me Tender - A
Follow That Dream - B-
Kissin Cousins-  B-
Jailhouse Rock- A+
Loving You- A++
Frankie and Johnny- A+

Obviously Love me Tender, Loving You and King Creole are his best dramatic movies but I liked the fun ones too. It Happened at the Worlds Fair is one of my fav's . "Who wants to by a heart? (uh huh hoom) One broken lovers heart (uh huh hoom) One broken heart for sale "

:)

YAY I knew there had to be at least one!!!

I think King Creole is the best of his early dramatic work. It's weird even as much as I love the performances in Jailhouse Rock, I never rank it as high as Loving You or Love Me Tender.

It has taken me about 25 - 30 years to get used to 'some' of his singing.  I am afraid as an actor, he made a good singer..... :(

I am surprised that no one has mentioned his "Flaming Star" from 1960. Wherein Presley turns in one of his better performances as a half-breed caught between the world of the white man and the Native American. With a supporting cast that includes Steve Forrest, Barbara Eden, Dolores del Rio, John McIntire, Rudy Acosta, Karl Swenson, Richard Jaeckel, and L. Q. Jones. Directed by Don Siegel and written by Clair Huffaker and Nunnally Johnson from the novel by Clair Huffaker. A quality production all around.

ive seen flaming star. i love both elvis and barbara eden (jeannie) so yeah, lol, i'm biased. but i really did enjoy the film. it's kinda slow for today's standards, but it did give elvis a chance to act without constantly breaking into song--he only does one onscreen song, and the credits. he could have been a good actor, he just never got a good script. though i blame the colonel for that one. the colonel saw "$$$" and elvis wanted to be more like james dean or marlon brando and not having to be there just for his voice while he sang to a guy he just beat up or to a bunch of bikini-clad girls on a beach. but flaming star's storyline is quite awesome. though i'm really bothered by the nighttime scenes that were shot in broad daylight and have the sun beating down when you just saw pacer and clint hop out of bed in the middle of the night. lol. the film needed stronger direction i think. but the actors were fantastic--including elvis. he actually blended in, after 30 minutes i was seeing "pacer" not elvis. which for him is a big thing, because he's such an icon--and even better since i'm a hugeamongous fan. thats a sign he had melded into the role. even with the "uh huh"s to go along with it.

im dying to get my hands on king creole, jailhouse rock, love me tender, loving you, and blue hawaii. ah heck i think ill have to just see all of them one day.

i blame the fans and colonel parker for the poor movie career. the fans wanted him to sing and the colonel wanted money. had both not interferred, elvis could have become a star of good movies. he had the presence and acting ability. sure, dramatic even in his seriousish roles, but when was he ever not dramatic? it worked for him.

i've seen many many of the "song numbers" from his movies, and some of them are really cool. worth the price of rental alone. i know i shouldn't be this fond of those clips as i nearly wish that's not what his movies all were, but they are what is left of the 31 (plus 2 concert movies = 33) movies really.

which one has "i've got a lot of living to do"??? i have the clip of that from one of his films and i've got to say...HOT.
