I always thought these guys were overrated.  I chose "Light My Fire", even though it should be shortened to make it more 'listenable'.

Well there was a 'radio edit' of the thing available, Karen (clocked in at just over three minutes) which is handy for those who can't stomach the entire seven minutes of it...

...same applies to 'Riders On The Storm'...

My choice as well, Cat!

People Are Strange,
When You're A Stranger,
Faces Look Ugly,
When You're Alone'
Women Seem Wicked,
When You're Unwanted,
Streets Are Uneven,
When You're Down
.......I love it.  My second Choice was "Riders On The Storm" and I would've also picked one you left off called "When The Music's Over".......great poll though ;)

I was debating whether to include BOTH Break on Through and When the Music's Over along with many others. But since there are only 7-I figured "Other" would cover it.

Pop trivia question: What song was Morrison singing when he was arrested in New Haven, Connecticut on Dec. 9, 1967?  He was charged with breach of peace, resisting arrest, and immoral exhibition.

"Riders on the Storm" ??
::)

I went with "Light My Fire" (1967) even though I prefer Jose Feliciano's, 1968 version of that song a little more.
"Light My Fire" is definitely their best song and one of the most recognized songs out of the '60s.

Maybe for a #2, I'd go with...
Peace Frog (1970)  "Ghosts crowd the young child's fragile eggshell mind..."  :o ::)

;D

Billy Idol's version isn't bad, but I don't think it's better than the original.  Jose Feliciano at least turned "Light My Fire" into a different beast, but I hate that version also.  (To be fair though, spanish guitar is not my thing.)

(I see that  :P)

For me, I always liked José's subtle, restrained, soulful version of that song. Yes it was a different beast.
I've never heard Billy Idol's version (I may just check out a sound clip of it on Amazon), but out of the 3 versions mentioned something tells me his version's going to come in 4th with me.

;) ;D

With Morrison you could not beat the whole package. The man, when he sang it he owned it, and he exuded an unmatched animal sexuality.  Spoiled me for any of the prissy things being passed of a "sexiest" men these days. Yeah, I am a fan.

Hiya Cat - I voted for L.A. Woman because I heard it on the radio tonight and I remembered how much I like the guitar break in it. I've not listened to that album for a long time...

I also like "The End" as on the soundtrack to "Apocalypse Now".

I used to go to and help organise psychedelic 'discos' (for want of a better word) and this is the track we would always play to say it was time to leave.  Took a while for newbies to get it.

Led Zeppelin should never, ever be mentioned in the same company as Jim Morrison.

This should be another thread, I'm sure, but  Jimmy Paige and Company were the biggest thieves
of american black blues to hit the stage.  Paige never played a lick that wasn't stolen, they never "wrote"
a song that hadn't been written.  See Robert Johnson, Howling Wolf, and Muddy Waters and the
plagiarism lawsuit that was settled for the entire first album.

I went to a street fair today, food, music fun, anyway a jukebox or radio was playing and I could
hear"Hello, I  Love You".  It put me in mind of the days when my arms were wicked and my legs
were long, so I held my head up high like a statue in the sky, and damned if some guy didn't try
to pluck this dusky jewel.

It would be too easy to pick "Light My Fire (the unabridged version - I can stomach the whole seven minutes)".

So, I chose "Touch Me". With People are Strange after that.

Both my parents are fans, so I grew up listening to them, but partly 'cause of the Greatest Hits CD as well as the tunes I'd hear on the radio, I'm more of a casual/"hits" fan as opposed to being really into them as a whole.

I picked the poppish rocker "Hello I Love You" as a favorite, but I should also give mention to an epic called "Riders on the Storm" - creepy and slow, but tuneful at the same time. "LA Woman" and "Break on Through" are other favorites.
