Heh! I thought as much...special mention to Dusty's effort (originally an Italian song which became her 'theme' tune) - fantastic singer, much missed...

Sandie's song was the first ever British winner in the Eurovision Song Contest - sadly, it near-enough killed her career...she still hates it...!!

And Louie Armstrong became the oldest artist to have a #1 - not only here, but in America too with 'Hello Dolly' in 1964 - the great 'Wonderful World' was used to good effect in 'Good Morning Vietnam'

1965 - Ticket To Ride - The Beatles  Not bad. I'd give it a 3.5.

1968 - What A Wonderful World - Louis Armstrong  Lovely song!  4

1969 - Get Back - The Beatles  Again, not bad.  3.5

1960 - Do You Mind - Anthony Newley  U/K

1961 - Wooden Heart - Elvis Presley  4 – not a bad Elvis tune

1962 - Wonderful Land - The Shadows  4.5 – my fave Shadows tune

1963 - How Do You Do It - Gerry & The Pacemakers  2 – Never liked the nasally sound of this song…

1964 - A World Without Love - Peter & Gordon  3.5 – never really did that much for me…

1965 - Ticket To Ride - The Beatles  4 – one of their better ones from the middle period

1966 - You Don't Have To Say You Love Me - Dusty Springfield  4 - ok

1967 - Puppet On A String - Sandie Shaw  4.5 – Quite liked it, for the type of song it was

1968 - What A Wonderful World - Louis Armstrong  4.5 – but get the man a glass of water quick

1969 - Get Back - The Beatles  4 – Of their latter stuff it was ‘ok’

Howard

Probably better known for his acting ability, Howard - but he could carry a tune to a certain degree...

I was a bit tired last night, so I'll finish these off...

1960 - Tony's song was a bit ho-hum...but unusually was a British song that was 'covered' for the US, by none other than Andy Williams...

1962 - The Shadows were Cliff Richard's backing band who were almost as successful in their own right (everywhere but America...) - this was an attractive tune where they used an orchestra as backing for the first time...

1963 - 'How Do You Do It' was first thrown at The Beatles, but they performed such a lacklustre version that George Martin (thankfully) agreed to let them do their own material...Gerry had no such problems...

1964 - Peter & Gordon were fortunate in as much that Peter's sister Jane was dating Paul McCartney at the time, so he 'donated' this song to them...alright, but not essential...

1965 - Superb 'droning' effort from them Fabs...The Carpenters also did an interesting version early in their career...

1969 - Trucks along nicely, with Billy Preston doing marvellous things on the electric piano...
