Though I can't pick both: motown.  8)

I also like British Invasion, but I prefer the '80's British Invasion since I only like a few bands like The Beatles, Rolling Stones, and a few songs from popular artists. The same with some Motown artists like The Supremes, which all their songs sound a like.

Both were too good, but I bet if you asked the members of British Invasion bands, they would all say Motown.

I might have said British Invasion when I was younger, but now I really like a lot of Motown even more. I say Motown and congrats to the Pistons for killing the Lakers in the finals. :)

I love both. In my heart, British Invasion is there.

But, in terms of longevity, Motown has had far more influence on bands/artists both and then. I mean, even those involved in the British Invasion were greatly influenced by Motown (the Beatles, Cream, I could go on).

Great artists from both musical events.

It's been a while R&R Fan, How ya" do'in? We've been around to see the both of them from their beginings, I lean towards the Brits for bringing their new sound to our ears, but for the real mood music, the Motown sound kept the love songs alive...what Brit song is better than "My Girl" or "Sitting in the Park"?

It sure has, I'm alright, how 'bout you? The "Mersey Beat" and all the British had me loving music back then. Yes, I like most of Motown with the huge exception of the Supremes. I've seen some pretty sad stories about Queen Diana Ross being a witch...driving one member to suicide while her most recent solo concert tour was a huge flop. Anyway...I lean towards the British. Also the "Forgotten"...just plain good old American Rock/Pop from great artists like Beach Boys, Association, Buckinghams, Grass Roots, Paul Revere & The Raiders, Glen Campbell, BJ Thomas, The Monkees, Three Dog Night and Righteous Brothers....to name just a few ;)

I must choose the British Invasion because so many great bands came from that.

Some I like are:

Pink Floyd
Led Zepplin
Beatles
Rolling Stones
The Who

and a newer British band that I like is Radiohead.

Motown was better in its breadth, IMO. The British Invasion did have a few (obvious) artists who could beat Motown to a pulp, though.

Some would argue the 'British Invaders' all but stole the 'black man's blues.' That is not strictly true, but that's not an argument I want to have here.

I would really want to say one is 'better' than the other. In terms of mainstream rock, British Invasion probably had the greater effect. Bands like the Animals, the Hollies, Gerry and the Pacemakers, the Troggs formed the blue-print of 'modern' rock. But Motown gave music its pop sensibilities and moved 'Black' music more into the mainstream. I love the sheer deceptive simplicity of songs by artists such as the Supremes, Marvin Gaye.etc.

As Trimac said, they were both important. Motown is the root of most mainstream black music today and popularized true black music to the masses (along with Stax-Volt and Decca, to a lesser extent), and most modern rock comes from "The British Invasion" and its sensibilities, ultimately.

Hello,I would say that The British Invasion was much more original....and for Motown it was a whole lot of over produced tracks with all the performers non instrument playing people who only sang and were dependant on the Berry Gordy hired musicians to make his beloved artists sound good...To me and my ears I seem to feel that they were less talented than the English bands....All the bands from The British Invasion PLAYED INSTRUMENTS....and WROTE THE SONGS...at least most of their material...were as the MOTOWNERS...were basically very dependant on the writing of others....So I am for the Brits....But I still do enjoy some Temptatios and Four Tops grooves....

Good point you raised, although a large majority of British Invasion groups like Peter and Gordon didn't right most of their songs originally, only later.
