Subject: The Next 20 From 1969.....

Written By: RockandRollFan on 07/10/04 at 8:20 pm

"Sweet Caroline", "Jean" and then "Time Of The Season"

From this group I chose "Time of the Season", and "Wedding Bell Blues".
This group wasn't as tough as the first 20. :)

This list is a little tougher. I like these

It's Your Thing, Isley Brothers
Easy To Be Hard, Three Dog Night
A Boy Named Sue, Johnny Cash
Time Of The Season, Zombies

But these a little more:
Only The Strong Survive, Jerry Butler
In The Year 2525, Zager & Evans

Yet I like this one just a tad more:
My Cherie Amour, Stevie Wonder :)

:) ;D

They may even get easier as I list the next groups of 20 :)

"Sweet Caroline" - Neil Diamond
Awesome song..isn't it?  ;)

If there's Creedence, then there's my vote...!

'Bad Moon Rising' out of this stack, with 'Time Of The Season' (which wasn't actually from '69, but let's not nitpick) close behind it...

Also...I mentioned this some time before, but 'The Real Thing' by Russell Morris (also from this year), is an absolute corker...nearly off-the-scale psych/freakbeat in style, it did nothing here or Stateside...

...but one or two Australians might know it...! Worth finding...

Paul !  I was about to mention that song as being my absolute  favourite from 1969 !  Glad to hear you like it !  :)

My pick from this list is 'Spinning Wheel'

This one is a tough choice. I like most songs on this list but my favorites are Time of the Season, In the Year 2525, Wedding Bell Blues, and Jean (which reminds me of my mother because that is her name).

Very good spot, zcrito...but you really need the full, nigh-on six minute version with the seriously wigged-out ending to get the full brilliant effect...

Glad you liked what you did hear, though...

(Manda? Chalk up another 'convert' of sorts...!!)

An all-time favourite Paul.  Russell Morris is still around - he's seen quite regularly on Aussie TV.

Anyhoo .. from this selection I chose "Spinning Wheel" by Blood Sweat & Tears.

Duly noted  ;)

Like Paul said zcrito, see if you can't get hold of the full version.  It's well worth a listen :)

It's Your Thing, Isley Brothers
Sweet Caroline, Neil Diamond
Bad Moon Rising, Creedence Clearwater Revival
Get Back, Beatles
In The Year 2525, Zager & Evans
Green River, Creedence Clearwater Revival
My Cherie Amour, Stevie Wonder (I voted for this one)
In The Ghetto, Elvis Presley
Time Of The Season, Zombies
Wedding Bell Blues, Fifth Dimension

They are all great tunes!

I picked Wedding Bell Blues. "Come on marry me Bi-ill!," in a whiny voice.

Hate to nit-pick, but wasn't In the Ghetto from the early 60s; same with A Boy Named Sue?

No, I own a book with data compiled from Billboard, and both of those songs were big hits in 1969.

In The Ghetto of course! I did like Time of the Season's underlying base track and Jerry Butler's Only the Strong Survive (whiich Elvis redone better later) and Creedence is hard to beat anytime.

"In the Ghetto" along with "Suspicious Minds" are two of my favorite Elvis Presley! I couldn't agree with you more, Elvis. These are great tracks from him that showed more range from his usual love songs.

Thanks Tanya, good to hear someone who know the soulful Elvis rather than just Hound Dog. Listen to From Elvis in Memphis LP for a good dose of it. For me personally, From 1968 thru 1972 were his peak professional times. Suspicious Minds is a classic- good taste! or taste good?

I do agree with the later years (from the Comeback special to his final years). He did go back to his soulful roots as opposed to the teeny bopper music pushed on him. I think he was at his finest. So, that's why this is my fave time from him.
