Subject: Top Worst 25 Cartoons from Woops! & some cheap public domain tapes

Written By: woops on 12/11/04 at 10:45 pm

Based on animation historian/author Jerry Beck "50 Greatest Cartoons..." book and VH1's "Awsomely Bad" lists...

Source: Based on cartoons I've seen for the past couple of years and have/had on public domain tapes

I left out WWII propaganda cartoons since they should be looked at as historical documents instead of entertainment.
Though I like a few myself like "Blitz Wolf", "Scrap Happy Daffy", and "Herr Meets Hare".

25 Worst Cartoons from Woops (Mostly theatrical shorts)

Source: Based on cartoons I've seen on tv (overplayed) & video tapes.

25. "Popeye For President" (Famous Studios/Popeye)
24. "The Solid Tin Coyote" (Warner Bros./Wile E. Coyote & Roadrunner)
Coyote bulds a robot to try to catch the Road Runner. But with limited animation, the cartoon looked really bad. Though it's a good idea.
23. "Artic Giant" (Fleischer/Superman)
It's one of my least least favorite Superman cartoons with Superman trying to capture a defrosted T Rex that looked more like Puff the Magic dragon.
22. "Carrotblanca" (Warner Bros./Bugs Bunny & other Looney Tunes characters)
Not as good as the original Looney Tunes shorts of the early/mid 20th century. And could've been done at the time since "Casablanca" was one of the popular films in the 1940's.
21. "The Skeleton Dance" (Disney)
The first "Silly Symphony". Though I like a couple like "The Three Little Pigs".
20. "Goofy Gymnastics" (Disney/Goofy)
Goofy buys a gym set & does his most annoying gags & signature yell.
19. "Spree Lunch" (Famous Studios/Popeye)
Popeye & Bluto battles it out...as owners of two competing delis.
18. "The Whoopee Party" (Disney/Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, & Dippy Dawg...later known as Goofy)
17. "Stuporidious Cat" (Famous Studios/Buzzy the Crow)
16. "Old McDonald Had A Farm" (Famous Studios)
A "sing a long" cartoon with a bouncing ball.
15. "Old Mother Hubbard" (Iwerks)
14. "The Lost Dream" (Famous Studios/Little Audrey)
13. "Bartholomew Versus The Wheel" (Warner Bros.)
A boring cartoon about a dog who hated wheels after it's tail got ran over.
12. "Naughty But Mice" (Famous Studios/Herman & Katnip)
11. "Sniffles & The Bookworm" (Warner Bros./Sniffles)
10. "Mary's Little Lamb" (Iwerks)
A typical '30's  cartoon with bad music, 'jumpy' designs, and no, or very little,  laughs.
9. "There's Good Boos Tonight" (Famous Sudios/Casper)
A creepy cartoon with Casper & a fox.
8. "Naughty But Mice" (Warner Bros./Sniffles)
Believe it of not, the Sniffles cartoons were directed by Chuck Jones.
7. "What's My Lion?" (Warner Bros./Elmer Fudd)
A lion disguises itself as a hunting trophy in Elmer's house. Would be suprise if nothing funny happens?
6. "Man's Best Friend" (Disney/Goofy)
Goofy and Bowser, his pet dog. Creepy since Goofy is a dog himself.  :P
5. "Cheese Burglar" (Famous Studios/Herman without Katnip)
A very  unfunny cartoon with a mouse (Herman) trying to outwit a dumb cat & dog.
4. "Tarts & Flowers" (Famous Studios/Little Audrey)
Little Audrey goes to some land of pastry (via: a dream) to look for a gingerbread she baked that went off to get married to an angel food cake.
3.  "Quack A Doodle Doo" (Famous Studios/Baby Huey)
A Baby Huey cartoon, enough said.
2. "The Friendly Ghost" (Famous Studios/Casper)
Casper's debut cartoon with the whiney ghost trying to make friends.
1. "See You Late, Gladiator" (Warner Bros./Speedy Gonzales & Daffy Duck)
Basically Speedy & Daffy going to a time machine to ancient rome for no apparent reason.

Top 7 Worst Classic Cartoon Characters:  :P

7. Sniffles the Mouse
6. Goofy
5. Buzzy the Crow
4. Herman & Katnip
3. Little Audrey
2. Baby Huey
1. Casper the Friendly Ghost

can't argue with much on yor list, but I think Sniffles doesn't deserve his place  there. There must be worse than that cute little mouse who just talks and talks and talks and is also a good singer and quite a dancer if he wants to be and he just cracks me up. :)

I'd also add the Van Bruen "Tom & Jerry" cartoons...though the DVD discribed the other better & funnier "Tom & Jerry" on the back cover...  ::)  :P

Also those "Mel O Toons", which were a couple of badly animated (even for the '60's) cartoons for televsion that are mostly about fairy/folk tales.  :P Also available on a cheap public domain DVD.

Though both would make great coasters.  :D

I recently bought the 'other' Tom & Jerry DVD and I was right.  :P

All of the cartoons were unfunny & boring.  Only an animation historian/fan might enjoy this.

Though it does make a great coaster.  :D

The Animaland toons  I saw on "Cartoon Alley"...

They're well drawn, but most are waaayyy tooo booorrriiinnnggg  :P

Especially the fact David Hand worked for Disney, which he directed "Snow White" & "Bambi"

The one with the cuckoo bird and the lion had some funny bits, but nothing special

20. "Goofy Gymnastics" (Disney/Goofy)
Goofy buys a gym set & does his most annoying gags & signature yell.

That's a funny cartoon!  :D

Though the Disney Classic Cartoon  Favorites Sports DVD did have too much Goofy  ::)
