it's about a poor girl praying, it goes something like this

Patches? I think that song was about a poor girl named Patches :\'(

Patches was a song of that mentions a son singing about his father: "Patches, I'm depending on you son..."
Another religious themed song..'Son of a Preacher man..Dusty Springfield' but it wasn't a girl praying.

There was also a song called "Patches" by Bobby Vinton before the Clarence Carter song.
It was about a boy in love with a girl from the "wrong side of town."
None of the lyrics sound like what you remember, so I don't think that's your song either

I keep trying to find the artist of this song and have seen the question posted on several websites.
Have tried deperately to find the artist... think it was a group, because it was on an old album of
my brother-in-laws. Perhaps the Fleetwoods?
At one point, someone wanted to know the words to the whole song and they couldn't remember all the words.
The part that was missing was: She prayed that God wouldrestore them, to what they had been, before they drifted apart.
Used to sing this song as a cheerleader in the back of a van to go to football and basketball games.
Played my guitar with it. Go Gosnell High!
