The 70s Style one was what I had in the early 80's.  Had a bunch of Disney and Looney Tunes slide wheels for it :)

The Modern style ones look kind of cool.  I will always favour the old style though

I used to have 50s style ones.I do have something similar--a stereoscope from about the 50s,from Soviet-era Russia.I can barely read the captions because I don't know the language, however.

I like the 70's/80's style. I have one like that..I found it at Goodwill. Vaughn has one of the newer ones...but I don't like the look of it....I am not one for changing looks of things too often. About a year ago, I got a lot of old viewmaster reels on Ebay...they are really cool! ;)

I still have the old 70's/80's style viewmaster with some Peanuts reels and other assorted ones that I can't remember. I think I may have some Winnie the Pooh reels also. When I was but a wee lad, early 70's, I had the GAF talking viewmaster. Those had a little plastic record attached to the reel. I've gotten nostalgic lately and been searching for another talking one. The talking viewmaster is reasonable enough in price but the reels are a bit pricey.

It's been so long since I've seen ours, but I believe ours came from probably the late 70's to early 80's, as I think I inherited it from my brother who passed it on to me. I use to love the "clicking" sound of them as you'd turn it to the next "slide." That brings back a lot of fun memories of turning off the lights and projecting them on the wall. Now that I think of it, this one was a different kind of viewmaster because they projected onto the wall. Hmmm... weird...

After you told me what they were I went hunting..

Anyway.

I own one, it's a plasticy yellow thing but the reel thing is in a straight line, it's almost like a slide projector. Maybe not quite the same thing.

I had the 70's style as a kid, but now that I have kids we have the modern one.  I like the rubber around the eyes, makes it comfortable.

Anyone remember "Show and Tell"?  It was a record player and TV type screen that you watched slides as the record played.

Well, these aren't in pairs, I only found two strips of slides, one had 6 on it and the other had 8 so presumably any number could be used, I guess pairs as well.

I remember growing up and useing my mom's old viewmaster.  she had 2 of the 1950's era, and they were black metal.  And she had hundreds of different disks.

I remember a lot of them were of news events of the day.  Queen Elizabeth's Coronation, the election of Pope John XXIII, even some of the early space program.  This is in addition to those from the first years of Disneyland, construction of various dams and bridges, even Civil War Battlefields.

And does anybody remember the disks made from cartoons?  Since it was 3-D, they used clay puppets so you could really see them in 3-D.  And they had shows ranging from Star Trek and Bonanza to Flipper and Gentle Ben.

I wish I knew where they are today.  The last time I remember seeing them, my mom gave them all to my stepbrother's daughter.  That was over 25 years ago.

The 'Peanuts" reels I have are 3-D. I think they came with one of the first generation 3-D Viewmasters. I think the 'Winnie the Pooh' reels might be 3-D also.

I think my folks had a couple of the cartoon ones--one with Snoopy Vs. the Red Baron and the other with Wile E. Coyote and the Road Runner. I also remember one of either Yosemite or Yellowstone National Park, I can't remember which for sure, but I remember that they probably were made back in the late 50's.

What I'd like to know is: Why haven't they came out with pornographic Viewmaster disks yet? There's a fortune just waiting to be made there.

Hahh hahh!! This is coming from our guest ... La Sine Pesroh ... err... Horse Penis Al !

I had the 70's version.  The Micky Mouse reels. Peanuts, and Casper the Friendly Ghost.
