I always liked the version that was sung by The Tokens. This song reminds me of my younger years, as it was our theme song in high school because we were the "Golden Lions". ;)

Very strange version, that...
Sounded like he was in pain, or constipated, (or both) in some parts...

Definitely a very different take on the song. No vocals just strange vocal patterns that sounds like was being choked to death.

I like the Tight Fit version best.
There's also a version by Cooldown Caf

I totally went with The Tokens too. It has a great rawness about it.
Oh quick trivia for you . . .
The man who really sung 'Tight Fit's version of the song was the guy in the gorilla outfit in the video.

Did you know the origin of this song? It has been written in the 1939s by Solomon Linda, a Zulu, who was inspired by a traditional dance of his people. He called it "Mbube" which means "Lion"

Is there someone trying to claim copyright at the moment?

Copyright has been adjudicated to the issues after long lawsuits

The Tokens, without a doubt. I don't think I've heard the cover versions, but I'm fairly certain they pale in comparison to the original. Covers are very rarely on par or better than the original version.
