Subject: 'Mr. Tambourine Man' Who's version do you like better?

Written By: Carl on 06/02/06 at 7:41 am

I would have to say I like Dylan's first, aas the original it's a more lengthy version and has a good accoustic sound, followed by The Byrds more psychedelic touch, though a much shorter version, it's still well performed.

The Byrds...

Dylan could certainly write fine songs...

...but when it came to singing 'em...(!!)

When Dylan sings, it sounds like he's got swollen lips ;D

He was a good songwriter though.  I liked The Byrds version better :)

I chose Dylan's.  I've always enjoyed his version of songs (Mr. Tambourine Man, Knockin' On Heaven's Door) over cover versions.  In fact, those two songs are my ringtones on my phone.

Sammy Davis Jr.  (I know it's not an option but in my mind he is Bojangles)

Just like 'All Along the Watchtower', I think the combined talents of Dylan's songwriting and those performing his songs produced one of the most memorable songs of the mid-60s.

Coincidentally, I heard Dylan's version playing in a restaurant tonight and it was sooooo good.

yeah, Bob is the singer/songwriter and I love his style, but that song, when GNR plays it with Slashes Gibson guitar, the gospel choir backup vocalists singing behind Axl, I like it much better because thats the kind of rock music I would play, more my style.  8)

Oh lordy mama.  I never thought I'd hear someone over the age of 30 say GNR did a song better than Dylan.

I like that saying "lordy mama "  ;D  and hell yes, I'm a GNR fan from their beginning, I love rock period,  classic, heavy, glam, soft, and I love folk. Dylan is in a league of his own, to be sure.

Bob was the scribe, the poet...the other artists were just mouthpieces for his ideas.
