Subject: YouTube: Before The 1970's

Written By: AL-B Mk. III on 09/15/06 at 2:52 pm

I figure, what the hell, since we have a 1970's YouTube thread, why not start one for Before The 1970's?

Here's a few:

(Dig that explosion right at the end. It's been said that this incident was at least partly responsible for Pete Townshend's hearing problems later on in life.)

That was awesome!

Hey, why did he stutter the words in that song? I know some teens go thru a stuttering phase, myself included.  Was he making a reference to that? Anyway, it totally worked.
Thanks for posting it!

We gotta have some Beatles on this thread

I love that song, Gene Clark added another dimension to the Byrd's sound.  Remember this?

Oh yeah, another great song!

A while back I saw an episode of the Flintstones where they were spoofing the mid-60's dance crazes, and for some reason Fred, Wilma, Barnay and Betty kept going to thie TV studio where they were taping a Shindig or Hullaballoo type of show. The band that was playing was none other than the "Beau Brummelstones," and they were playing this song when Fred accidentally fell off a table, did a complete flip, and then landed flat on his back.  All the teenybopper dancers in the studio happened to think this was cool and began flipping over and landing on their backs, and it started a new dance craze called the "Flintstone Flop."  ;D

Here is a lesser known singer from the '60s. His name is Oliver. He is pretty good though. He sings Good Morning Starshine from the musical Hair and a few other hits.

Now for something a little different: Here is the legendary racer Juan Manuel Fangio testing a Ferrari Grand Prix car in 1957 at either Monza or at Ferrari's test track--not sure myself, there seems to be some disagreement in the comments section, but no matter, it's one hell of a ride!  ;)

Here are 2 different "Official" music videos from a #1 song in 1969:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jf_GL_oRCVI
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ott0EacbphM

For those that do not recognize the singer, he is Ron Dante.  He was also lead singer of the satire song "Leader of the Laundromat", and the 1979 disco album Dante's Inferno.  The song was written by Andy Kim, who is mostly known for his #1 single Rock Me Gently.

This is probably the ultimate in "bubblegum pop".
