Subject: Old time Semi-Pro Baseball

Written By: tokjct on 04/13/07 at 12:35 am

I wasn't sure whether this topic fits here or in the Sports thread...but back in the 40's and 50's my grandfather used to take me to Dexter Park, in Richmond Hill, NY, to see the great (and I do mean...really top quality) semi-pro baseball players.  The Bushwicks called Dexter Park their home field. They played the Jersey Giants, an all Black team, the House of David, an all orthodox Jewish team where all the players had beards, and several other fine semi-pro teams.  We always saw good baseball and the price of admission, for me, was always a quarter. 8)
