Mine would be either Bette Davis or Joan Crawford. I used to dislike Joan because of the whole Mommie Dearest thing. But I started watching her movies, and I think she is a really good actress, who isn't as hammy as most from those years.
I also really like Anne Baxter, who I think is underappreciated. I also think Mira Sorvino is a dead ringer for her!

I also think Greta Garbo is fascinating, but I think she's a little wooden in her acting :-\\.

Ingrid Bergman-just absolutely beautiful
Mae West-definitely a "Brassy Chick" ;)
Grace Kelly-another absolutely beautiful woman

Ive always liked Grace Kelly...
But my absolute favourite acress would have to be Katherine Hepburn. She and Carry Grant were amazing together on film.

She was good on TV, but to be honest, I think she's terrible in the movies I've seen of hers from the 40's.

Yeah I spent an entire UC quarter researching the film for a film majors seminar a few years back. I picked the film apart- broke it down and analyzed every aspect of it. I should be sick of it but I'm not. I still love it. ( the 1959 version...)

Pretty good choices. I had a huge crush on Natalie Wood. I would add Myrna Loy. She is great in "The Thin Man" and "The Best Years of Our Lives." If you've never seen these two movies, have yourself a Myrna Loy film festival and watch them. (Actually, I just checked and "Thin Man" is on Turner Classic Movies today!)
