ONE HIT WONDERS: The Singing Nun, Patty Duke, Doris Troy, Smith

LADIES OF JAZZ: Dinah Washington, Nancy Wilson, Nina Simone

ROCK: Janis Joplin, Jefferson Airplane, Marianne Faithful

SOUNDTRACKS: Julie Andrews, Doris Day, Pearl Bailey, Diahann Carroll, Shirley Jones

We should appreciate women from the '60s more like we did in the '70s and again from 1986+. You really needed the talent. Remember, this was BEFORE the women's political movements were in the spotlight. They didn't shout and scream like most modern singers do; many had unusual tones, blended together well vocally, or expressed deep, personal emotions.

Good info yelimsexa.  Mama Cass should also fit (no joke intended) into that list somewhere.

Carole King also had some big hits in the 60's prior to the Tapestry album of the 70's.

The woman who sang lead for The Original Caste.  Her vocals on the late 1969 hit 'One Tin Soldier' are fantastic!

I always liked Dixie Lee Innes' vocal . It was a bit softer than Jinx Dawson"s {Coven}version.
