Subject: Greatest Generation/WWII movies

Written By: Ryan112390 on 05/21/09 at 9:12 pm

Hey

What are some good movies made about the Greatest Generation (those born between 1916 and 1926) and WWII? Also, what are some good movies about the 50s? Not from a kid or teen's perspective, but from the perspective of someone who was in their 30s or 40s.

Band of Brothers

Battleground - vastly underrated but great movie

Three Came Home - the true story of a woman's imprisonment in a Japanese war camp

Bataan

To Hell and Back - stars Audie Murphy, the most decorated soldier of WWII, as himself.  He holds off a German advancement almost by single handedly.

If you mean something other than a good war movie, but where the story has something to do about the WWII then

Casablanca (1942)
The Best Years of Our Lives (1946)

Also, what are some good movies about the 50s?

Hmmm...not an easy one.
How about:

The Way We Were (1973) (A maybe on this one. I haven't seen it in years.)
Next Stop, Greenwich Village (1976)
Distant Voices, Still Lives (1988) (takes place in the '40s and '50s ?)
