So what off hand, ended the Surf Music craze of the 50's and 60's?

???

Just curious, off hand.

I wouldn't really say the arrival of the British Invasion ended the Surf Music craze. The Beach Boys "Fun, Fun, Fun" was at #5 at a time when only Beatles songs were higher. They had two more chart toppers plus Barbara Ann in early 1966. The Riviera's California Sun and Ronnie and the Daytona's GTO plus Jan & Dean's The Little Old Lady From Pasadena and Dead Man's Curve were big hits in 1964 and early 1965. I feel that the lame, low-budget beach movies and the arrival of psychedelic culture in 1966 ended Surf Music (as you can see with The Ventures and the Beach Boys with Good Vibrations).

Yeah, whatever. Dick Dale could (and, at 75 years old, still can) shred.

Surf music was great music. Loved it. Beach Boys are amongst the best bands ever and If Brian Wilson didn't lose it (drugs...whatever) I think they could have made more albums, maybe rival Pet Sounds. Brian was a musical genius. Mike Love and others took it in a different direction after Brian left.

If The British invasion did end surf music, then that's sad because I think the 2 styles could have gone on together.
Even though I prefer the Bristish Invasion music to surf music, surf music was still great, and more or less  like Al said , IT MAKES MY CAR GO FASTER!!!

Fudge is the Internet equivalent...
What did she do to you. She doesn't like synthesized music - that much could be inferred by her use of ! After typing No.

It's her opinion. You want others to let you have your opinion why would you deny her the same right?

No I meant I don't care that much that she gave a snappy & judgmental answer. If she said "No, it's a classic and doesn't need to be redone" that would be fine, but I can tell when a post is passive-aggressive. I bet if you said the same thing I did, she would have given a more positive response. If she was just being honest and not trying to make me feel like a fool for even suggesting such a thing, I'm sorry if I hurt her feelings.

As far as the fudge. I don't think fudging someone is a big deal, to me it's no different from thumbing someone down on a news story comment. All it means is you dislike or disagree with a post or comment. But I'm sorry if I hurt her feelings, but I doubt I did, I think people here just don't like me for some reason and this is all a way to guilt trip me for something that's not a big deal at all.

No. Fudge is the equivalent of telling someone "I really don't like that post". When I post something on the Internet, and it gets a thumb down, my heart sinks a bit for like three nanoseconds, but it's no skin off my back.

I know cat. We have been posting together for many years. I don't care if Chucky himself asked the question her response would've been exactly the same. Stop taking everyone's posts so personally.

Cat is one of the least passive aggressive people here. In fact- except in the politics threads- she tries to avoid confrontation.

Some people take karma and fudges more seriously than u and I do. Generally - on these boards the interpretation is that you are fudging/karmaing the person. Not the statement they made.

Sure was...about as far away from the spiritual home of surfing as you could imagine!

The group were in summer season in Great Yarmouth when the tune was ready for recording, so they had to drive down to London after a show, record the song, then drive straight back to Yarmouth for their next performance!

Which version?  (The answer to your question is "Everybody since 1958")

The first one I remember hearing dates back to 1963.

I have a question - do you think a synthesized version of 'Wipeout' by The Surfaris would be cool?

I guess it was a little early for surf music, but I like this one from 1959.

Santo & Johnny - Sleep walk (1959)

This one has great use of instruments. A classic instrumental indeed. O0
