That book looks very interesting. I might see if the local library has one in stock.
I'm currently reading a book called The Way We Really Are, and it's by Stephanie Coontz. One of the things the book addresses is the 1950s nostalgia common among older adults, and it tears down some false notions about how the '50s supposedly were.

I have that book at my parents house!
People were cruel to many back then, you lose a leg...you go back to work!
