Subject: Obscure 1960's songs

Written By: Henk on 08/08/11 at 4:17 pm

Since we already have similar topics re. the 1970's, 1980's and 1990's...

Here's one:

Easybeats - Hello How Are You

Easybeats are of course best known for "Friday On My Mind", a song that peaked at #1 in The Netherlands.
And yet, this tune got way more airplay in The Netherlands (because it was used in a series of commercials that ran for years on end).
I've used it in quizzes in the past, and it even got my Aussie friends stumped!

Excellet stuff so far.  That Boobs A Lot one was great.

Back in the 60s, this one was very popular in Canada, and even made the lower reaches of the US Hot 100, but over the years, I find it has gotten quite obscure.  When you think Teen Idol from Canada, you think Paul Anka or Bobby Curtola, not Terry Black ...

Terry Black - Unless You Care (1964)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BCMRp_A03RU

Bobby Curtola - Three Rows Over (1965)

I often wonder how Bobby handles those old songs in his shows today.  He gets alot of American tourists at his live show in Toronto, and those who  don't know who he is, see this old guy singing about a young girl "three rows over and two seats down" and probably find it quite creepy lol

Curtola had so many great songs, it's hard to choose just one, though I seem to listen to 'Indian Giver' the most over all of his songs.

Henk, The easybeats were an australian band, they had at least 6 top 10 hits in australia,George young (father of ACDC guitarist Angus young) and Harry Vanda went on to become Vanda and young in the 70's having a couple of decent hit songs. The lead singer of the band Stevie wright was known for his Rock epic in australia "evie".

Probably more obscure to the British (ironically!) as it was never released as a single here - quite a few of their US singles met this fate...

Big hit in the States though (and written by Ray Davies of The Kinks)...
