Sometimes I have trouble falling asleep but it's not so bad
Not again
I don't worry and I don't weep in fact I'm glad
because I get up off my pillow and I flip on the lights
Ernie turn the lights back off
I get down and get hip in the still of the night
I stretch and I yawn and then I breathe reall deep
and dance mysef to sleep

I hoof around my beddy just a tappin my toes
Before I know what's happening I'm a ready to doze
Got some partners I can count on called the Boogie Woogie Sheep
What?
I dance myself to sleep
I don't believe this

I gently rock myself across the floor I turn and then I turn and
then  I start to snore
My trusty little bugle helps me spread the news that
a tap and two taps and I'm a ready to snooze

Oh not the bugle.  Oh why me
Enrie! Those sheep are tapdancing
Oh why me?
That's nothing Bert.  Wait till you hear rubber duckie play the bugle
watch this rubber duckie.  He's the boogie woogie bugle duck of Sesame Street

Ernie! Ernie! Your sheep! Call them off please! HEY! Oh not outside!
Well I'm getting kind of drowsy so the moment has come
to grab my rubber duckie while sheep take my chum
Not outside! Please! ERNIE! ERNIE!
Time to shuffle off to dream land got a date to sleep
and dance myself to sleep oh yeah
We'll dance ourselves to sleep we're in our jammies
We'll dance ourselves to sleep and thank you lammies
We'll dance ourselves to sleep.

Remember this? Wheels On My Feet?  I'm actually surprised that Caroll Spinney didn't fall and hurt himself during this skit.  :)

I remember this quite fondly

When he wants to go out and have a little fun
and he doesn't want to skip and he doesn't want to run

And he doesn't want to jump and he doesn't want to stroll
And he doesn't want to rock but he does want to roll

He watches to world go whizzing by with a whoosh in his ears
and the wind in his eyes here's what he does when that's the case
he goes and gets his roller skates

Yee haw!

Going  around and around and around and around
that's how it goes with wheels on my toes
Round and around and around
that's how it feels with wheels on my feet

Sometimes he likes to skate on the sidewalk
sometimes he likes to skate at a rink
sometimes he lskates to the park
sometimes he skates to the store
for a snack and a drink
He rests on the stoop for a minute and then
it's around and around and around again
and he never wants to stop cause it feels so neat
so he zips down the street with wheels on his feet

Yeah haw!

Going round and around and around and around
That's how it goes with wheels on my toes
Round and around and around and around
that's how it goes with wheels on my feet
wheels on my feet.  :)

In the second part Bert still wants to know why Ernie has a banana in his ear and he says "Listen Bert I use this banana in my ear to keep the aligators away." Then Bert says "Aligators? Ernie there are no aligators on Seasme Street"  to which Ernie replies "Right! It's doing a good job isn't it Bert?"?  LMAO!

Harvey Kneeslapper: Toys In The Closet

Part 1: Harvey puts some toys in the closet.  A girl named Connie opens the door and the toys don't fall when she opens the door.  But after Harvey opens the door the toys come tumbling down.

Part 2: Harvey resets his toy closet booby trap.  A boy named George comes along and tries to open the door but he says that the door is stuck and it won't open.  Harvey opens the door again to the toys come tumbling down on top of him.  A baseball glove lands on his head and he throws it on the ground.

Part 3: Once again Harvey resets his closet booby trap and suddenly George and Connie come and open the door.  But instead of a closet Connie and George come out of a doorway.  But when Harvey opens the door for the third time the toys fall on him again and he picks up a plastic telephone receiver and he throws it on the ground.

Sheesh! You would think that Harvey would know enough not to open the door of his closet after the last couple of times that his joke backfired on him.  LMAO!

Part 1.

Bert walks by Ernie and notices that he has a banana in his ear.

B: "Hey Ernie? Hey uh Ern?"?
E: "Oh hi Bert!"
B: "Ernie do you know you have a banana in your ear?"?
E: "What was that Bert?"?
B: "I said you have a banana in your ear Ernie.  Bananas are food.  They are to eat not to put in your ear Ernie!"
E: "What did you say Bert?"
B: "WILL YOU JUST TAKE THAT BANANA OUT OF YOUR EAR!"
E: "I'm sorry you'll have to speak a little louder Bert.  I can't hear you.  I have a banana in my ear."

Part 2

B: "Ernie!"
E: "Oh hi Bert!"
B: "You still have that banana in your ear?"?
E: "What?"?
B: "I said you still have to banana in your ear?"
E: "Yeah Bert I know."
B: "You know? Ernie why is that banana still in your ear?"?
E: "Listen Bert I use this banana to keep the aligators away!"

Japanese Canadian Oragami artist Ken Furukawa posted this video of all of his old clips from Canadian Sesame Street where he was demonstrating how to do oragami.  I never had the patience to learn orgami myself.  But he's a great artist.

Yes, it was written by Joe Raposo, same guy who wrote the theme to Three's Company, and other songs too. I loved Sesame Street's version of "Sing" and the Carpenters version as well.

Do you all remember how Big Bird always used to get Mr. Hooper's name wrong? Usually he'd call him Mr. Looper, but I remember that on more than one occasion Big Bird actually called him Mr. Pooper, and when you're 5 years old that's the funniest thing in the world. (As a matter-of-fact I'm 42 years old and I still think it's funny.) And you can't tell me that the folks at the Children's Television Workshop were completely oblivious to this.  :D

we polish on the I
we keep it clean and shiny
so it brightens up the sky

Rubbing it here and scrubbing it there
polishing the I so high in the air

As we work we sing a lively tune
it is great to be so happy on a

the day's only chore
we go into the I and we

Some of the words that begin with I
they get to be quite tricky
like intersection, and illegal,
irritate and icky

Many words that begin with I
are longer than itchy and into
There's impossible and incredible
and important too

The letter I is quite a trick
I think I'll take him on my trip
we'll have some fun and do a flip
into my car away we'll zip

I'm glad to be with the letter I
cause he's so irresistible.

Oh take two steps on the tips on of your toes
take two steps that's the way it goes.
Dance one, two, on the tips of your toes
careful not to step on your girlfriend's nose

One, two, one, two, one, two
"Well that's it.  It's easy to do
all you have to do is count to two"

One, two, one, two, one two
If two toucans, two hairy moose can'

two kangaroos, even two cuckoos can
well my friend then so can you.

one, two, one, two, one, two, one two

I highly recommend muppetcentral.com's forums for a more in-depth look at what other people remembered. That said, Sesame Street up through the 1990s would often air decades-old material. Popular topics about early Sesame Street is that celebrity guests would usually show up without a Muppet present, the same letters/numbers would be sponsored for the entire week, the counting would only range from 1 to 10, and that many old sketches were simply based on older shows such as Dick Van Dyke. Don't forget the bizarre shape of some Muppets early on, such as Big Bird more resembling Bullwinkle and Orange Oscar the Grouch. Of course Old Skool Sesame Street itself, while out of print, consists of three DVDs, each one consisting of five season premiere episodes. Also, while it seems like based on the episode count much more was produced, and that is true with regards to the street scenes, in reality much of the content was recycled over and over again.

Well over here our Sesame Street had skits in French.  So I don't think it's that much of a stretch to teach words and phrases in Spanish.

Yo-Yo Master: "Well you should figure it out for yourself little guy but I'll give you a hint."
Boy: "Oh thank you."
Yo-Yo Master: "Try to remember everything you past but when you go back make the first thing the last! Ha-ha yeah!"

Little Chrissy: The Opposite Of What I Do.

I go up and you go down
I go in a straight line and you go round and round
I go over and under and you go through
Tell me why do you always do the opposite of what I do?

I go left and you go right
I travel in the daytime and you prefer late at night.
Well I go away from and you go to
Tell me why do you always do the opposite of what I do?

Well, when I come in honey you go out
You're sure of yourself and I am filled with doubt
When I want more you give me less
When I say no you say yes, yes, yes, yes.

Honey you hang loose and I'm uptight
you know I'm heavy and you are light
When you say "false" how can I say "true?"?

Tell me why do you always do the opposite of what I do?
Tell me why do you always do the opposite of what I do?
Tell me why do you always do the opposite of what I do?

A Stool For Me.

"This is the stool that I built.  My father helped me.  First we sawed off a piece of an old tree.  That's going to be the seat of the stool for me.  Then we hunted a little straight tree for the legs of the stool for me.  Now we're going to make to stool lickety split.  Then we widdle them clean and white.  See how white the legs can be?
Now my daddy takes the hatchet, it's too sharp for me, that takes the bark off of that round of tree.  1, 2, 3, 4, we don't need any more to make a stool for me.  And now we're going to make three holes to put the legs in the seat of the stool for me.

Now I have a little stool for me."

I definitely agree that Sesame Street went to crap after the 1990's and early 2000's came along. The old school characters that used to be on the show, not many are there any longer but were replaced with newer ones that kids could relate to and now they've went from Channel 13 to now a 30 minute episode on HBO Kids.

Also, most of the original cast have retired or have died.  Dr. Loretta Long is the only one of the original cast members who hasn't been forced into retirement.
In recent years they retired Sonia Manzano, and then a few years ago they forcibly retired Roscoe Orman, Emilio Delgado, and Bob McGraff and had planned to replace them with new characters that kids could relate to.  Then there was a public backlash at Sesame Workshop's plans and then the denial that the characters were being forcibly retired.

So why couldn't the old school cast members just make small appearances?

See me
eating a peach
sitting on my eagle
chasing a beagle
to the queen on her knee
under a tree by the sea
she was looking for her easter egg

Having a dream about eating
ice cream in the land of steam

When a baby seal tickled her heel
she let out a squeal
woke from her dream in time to see
the eagle and me
flying away with the easter egg
over the evening sea
Hee Hee Hee!

Lonely and cold

Lowercase n

Then one day a rocket ship

It landed on the hill

then something started
coming outside

A lowercase n (she's not lonely any more)
they are standing on the hill (there are two that stand for sure)

Disco Frog

In the evening when the sun goes down
folks all hurry to the edge of town
At the bayou bank, they stand and wait in the clear air

And soon the water ripples catch their eye
and the ladies hush and breathe a sigh
on a lilypad, all dressed in white he appears there

And then he boogies up and down and shuffles right
slipping splashing in the full moonlight
Alligators with their teeth so bright smile and sway there (sway there)

And soon the loons are joining in the jamboree
everybody's happy just like me
watch him dance on that log
yeesh, it's the disco frog.

So join us by that swampy waterside
where we never have a thing to hide
and we feel so good, so deep inside
just to be there

While the stars are sparkling in the night
and bayou moon is burning bright
Yes it's quite the most amazing sight
that we see  there

Because he boogies up and down and shuffles right
Slipping splashing in the full moonlight
Alligators with their teeth so bright smile and sway there

And soon the loons are joining in the jamboree
everybody's happy just like me.
Watch him dance on that log
YEESH, it's the Disco Frog!

Yes, Linda Bove was a main character on the show but she wasn't on the show quite as long as Sonia, Emilio, Bob, Roscoe, and Loretta were.  Loretta and Bob were on the show since the very beginning along with Carol Spinney, 1936-2019, ETAL.

Emilio Delgado holds the record for the longest serving role for a Mexican-American actor ever, 50 years, and he and Sonia Manzano were the first Latino and Latina actors on Sesame Street.

Luis is trying to attract customers to his Fix-It Shop but he's not having too much luck.  He cries out "ABIERTO! ABIERTO!"! Before long he turns the sign in the Fix-It shop's window to read "CERRADO" or "CLOSED."
Before long Bob comes up and tries the door but notices Luis's CERRADO sign so he walks away.
Susan is the next to come up and try the door and she too notices Luis's CERRADO so she too walks away.

Luis finally comes back, opens the Fix-It shop's door, turns the sign in the door to read "ABIERTO" and he cries out "ABIERTO" again.

Funny thing is I barely even remember this skit.

Yeah, I prefer the old, hour long, show too.  I've been remembering this Abierto/Cerrado animated skit where a very suggestive box teases a monster saying Abierto, Cerrado, before he jumps in the box and beats the man up.

He also did a skit as a puppet in Spanish while this puppet looks into the mirror and says "Yo".

I recall everything from Song of Two to Song of Ten but I don't recall the Song of One?

God! What those tumbles must have done to Alex Stephens back?

Once upon a time in the land of 8
There stood a castle very great
and 8 flags waved in the air
for the King of 8 had put them there

"I'm the King of 8 and I'm here to state
that everything here has to total 8.
The guards for instance by the gate
must always number exactly 8."

"1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8!"

"In my castle in back of me
are 8 windows you can see
1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8!
In those windows are my daughters
show yourselves my dears."

"1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8!"

"Each daughter has a silver crown with
8 jewels going 'round."

"1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8!"

"So I love 8, 8 is great, 8 is the number I do not.."
"Wait! Important news comes from the queen
a new baby and I have seen that she is well
and doing fine."
"Good grief, that's princess number 9!"!
