Subject: Gilligan's Island At 50

Written By: CatwomanofV on 09/26/14 at 2:43 pm

It seems that the crew & passengers aboard the S.S. Minnow was stranded 50 years ago.

This is an interesting article about the music on the show:

What I find very interesting is the original theme (written by John Williams).

The article leaves out a lot of clips including Ginger singing "I want to be loved by you" and many of the "Hamlet meets Carmen" opera.

I knew Sherwood Schwartz wrote the lyrics... I just thought he wrote the music as well.... interesting but not surprising since it's one of the best know sitcom themes... I mean John Williams is  genius!

Sherwood Schwartz and George Wyle wrote the "Ballad of Gilligan's Island" but John Williams wrote the ORIGINAL theme.

The one I just learned today is that in the first season -or maybe it's just the first episode- when the SS minnow leaves the harbor there is a flag at half mast  That's because that shot was filmed in late Nov 1963.

It was called "The Castaways."

There is a REAL Gilligan's Island in Puerto Rico. It is not the real name of the island but that is what it is called. It is SOOOOO beautiful and the BEST snorkeling. Actually, it is 3 islands.
