1910s (to me):

1. World War I
2. Ford Model T
3. The Titanic sinking in 1912
4. The fancy fashion.
5. Woodrow Wilson as US President of most of the 1910s.
6. The Spanish flu
7. Mexican Revolution
8. Russian Revolution of 1917
9. Prohibition starts in 1919.

Sorry if I annoyed you changing the thread topic, I just felt a bit stupid when I asked that question and then realised it was already a well known fact.

No, I'm not annoyed by the topic change (and I didn't think that you were stupid for asking it).

BTW, you didn't answer my question....are you a fan of Ronald Reagan?

9. Prohibition starts in 1919.

It didn't go into effect until the very beginning of the 1920s.

Yeah but the 18th Amendment was ratified in 1919 and Prohibition was the culmination of years of cultural pressuring from certain groups in the 1910s. However, I get your point.

I saw a picture from roughly 1918, and there were already cars in the New York street.

Cars started to become more common after 1908 when the Ford Model T came out, which is largely considered the first affordable car. Ford also increased the wages of their employees to $5/day, so they could afford the cars and show it off to their friends.

Makes sense. It probably took roughly 5 to 10 years, for cars to be um, prominent?? on the streets. And by 1925, I guess horse carriages were a thing of the past. Probably an overlap!!

personally if I had to choose between living in Europe in the 1910s or Europe in the 1940s, I would rather live in the 1910s because there was the Holocaust in the 1940s and the Nazis made life horrible and  in my opinion as bad as World War I was, World War II was a whole lot worse.

It was a bully time.
I wouldn't want to live in the 1910s for the rest of my life, but I have often felt that there is a certain quaintness to the period (yes, despite all the 'isms' we already know about. I being Italian also might not be very popular...) that I would want to spend a single week if I could. Romance a beautiful young woman (I do think women of the past were more beautiful than today on the whole), spend a sweet week in May of 1910 - before the Titanic or Guns of August.

The Smartphone should be counted as a third parent.
I have a niece who was born in 2006. Left to her own devices, she'd be staring at her phone all day long. I watch her. She zones out into that thing and her eyes glaze over like a heroin addict. You even have to call her name a couple of times to get her attention. Not only that, but she's exposed to so much information via that phone that a kid of her age shouldn't know.
