April 14, 1865 - Actor John Wilkes Booth shot President Abraham Lincoln at Ford's Theatre in Washington, D.C., during a production of Our American Cousin. Lincoln died the next day.

95-year-old Samuel J. Seymour, the last living witness of the assassination, appeared on the game show I've Got a Secret on February 9, 1956. He died April 12 of that year, having just turned 96 the previous month.

Back in 2013, on our trip to the USA, we were based for just under a week in Washington D.C. On the same day we visited John Kennedy's grave (and the Pentagon (no photos to be taken)) we went on to the Ford's Theatre, but at that time the USA was on shutdown by the government, so that meant, along with other buildings was closed, but the location of where Lincoln died from his wounds, was still open, now a privately run museum, but time was getting short for us that day so we did not go up to the very bedroom where he died.
