Subject: Lost in Space

Written By: violet_shy on 07/07/21 at 11:47 pm

It was my mom's favorite show to watch when she was growing up. She still watches the repeats often. I actually watched some of it(she asked me to)and it's actually quite good! Did anyone grow up in the 60s like my mother and watch Lost in Space? Share your memories with moi!

When my mom stayed with me after my surgeries, she would watch that sometimes. It was on my dish Saturday nights. She said she watched it as a kid.

Yes, watched it in it's original day. The first season (The black & white one) is the one to watch. That's when it was still serious. It later turned campy, to compete with "Batman".

I use to watch "Lost In Space" in the days of black and white, and have not seen any repeats for those original series. I heard that the 1998 feature film was not liked among the critics.

My mother said the same thing! The black & white episodes were the best ones. But she did watch them in color too.

I remember the film, but I didn't really care for it.

I watched Lost In Space all the time as a kid!  It was a favorite - albeit a bit over my head in the beginning, considering I was only 5 or 6 then.  Nonetheless I always wanted to watch it.  I haven't caught it much in reruns, though.

A quick look as something called Google would have told you 1968.

A quick look as something called Google would have told you 1968.
Wiki:
"In early 1968, while the final third-season episode "Junkyard in Space" was in production, the cast and crew were informally led to believe the series would return for a fourth season. Allen had ordered new scripts for the coming season. A few weeks later, however, CBS announced the list of returning television series for the 1968–69 season, and Lost in Space was not included. CBS executives failed to offer any reasons why Lost in Space was cancelled. The most likely reason the show was cancelled was its increasingly high cost. The cost per episode had grown from $130,980 during the first season to $164,788 during the third season, and the actors' salaries nearly doubled during that time."

You're making it too complicated. All Howard had to see was the very first sentence. It would have taken a matter of seconds:

Lost in Space is an American science fiction television series, created and produced by Irwin Allen, which originally aired between 1965 and 1968 on CBS.

It was my favorite show in 1st grade. We used to "play" it at recess and I ALWAYS had to be Penny.  One time I was Judy and I wasn't happy about it.

I've hadn't seen it in decades and I don't think I could stomach it now.

Too funny.  I knew that Jonathan Harris came up with those himself. As a kid, I didn't "get it". But as an adult, I think they are hysterical.

A little known fact about June Lockhart is that she was a big rock music fan and she loved the Southern California bands of the time like the Doors, and especially the Allman Brothers (in their early incarnation as the Hourglass). She would hire them to play at parties at her home, and she invited them to the Lost In Space set. She took 15 year old Billy Mumy to see the Hourglass and Nitty gritty Dirt Band at the Whisky A Go-Go in L.A.

Lassie's mother hanging out with decadent rock stars. Only in 1960s L.A.  ;D

She was also a replacement on Petticoat Junction when Bea Benaderet (the original Betty Rubble from the Flintstones) passed away-playing a female doctor which was rare in those days.
