Subject: Album Cover Photoshop Parodies

Written By: ChuckyG on 09/15/05 at 10:03 am

http://www.amiright.com/photoshops/r/redhotchilipeppersalbum_1126795790.shtml

I've begun a new section on amiright.  It's not 100% fleshed out yet, the submission script is a bit ugly (the final screen isn't very informative).  If people express enough interest in this section, I'll do more work to finish it off.

For now though, the above link brings you to a controversial one, by Like Brattoni.  You should be able to comment and vote on it.

Eventually, the thumbnails from this section, will be used in place of the album covers on some of amiright.

The Linkin Park one is excellent, very clever... bald  too...

if you do anymore, try using the upload form on the website too.  I cleaned it up, and I want to know if anything is hard to understand, use, etc.  It had some bugs I think I've ironed out.  Plus you can add comments to go along with the photoshops.

What should the voting categories for these be?  I totally forgot to change these when I first copied the code from the parody scripts (why re-invent the wheel right?).  I want just three skills to be evaluated.

Once I replace the voting categories, I'm going to add it to the site navbar and see if anyone notices.

How about "Appearance" or "Visual Appeal", "How Funny" and "Overall Score"?  For instance, this atrocity:

(Need I explain this again?  It's like "a bird in the hand...", you know, an idiom.  Yeah, I know, I'm so clever.)

...would get a 2-2-1 from my mom.

FEEDBACK
(dun dun dunnnn...)

OK Chucky, first of all I think some people may be put off with having to do the whole amazon thing in the first place.
Like "Hey, all I wanna do is post my witty 'NOT Justified' album parody, why do I have to go through all of this linking ferrlarrfal?"

Secondly, it was a bit confusing as to what exactly we were linking to. I did a 'Copy Shortcut' to the actual image as opposed to just the page in question. Also, is it possible to get amazon to open a new window for easier visibilty?

Thirdly, after I'd submitted, the 'Results' page didn't load anything. I tried a few times... do all entries get sent off to be screened first or something?

Fourthly, here's my entry in case the system actually does still have a few bugs in it and you feel oh-so obliged to do all of the paper work for me. (again)  :-http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y110/dragonangelfairy/LewdStench.jpg

yeah, I was thinking the same thing.  I guess I should have an explanation there, that this is on order to grab the original picture, without having to actually host it on my server, and also to replace similar items on the site with the parody album cover.  Plus with a product link, I can pick from three different sizes of the original (tiny, medium and large).

Secondly, it was a bit confusing as to what exactly we were linking to. I did a 'Copy Shortcut' to the actual image as opposed to just the page in question. Also, is it possible to get amazon to open a new window for easier visibilty?

somehow I knew that was going to cause confusion too...

they do get screened first, but it appears yours didn't go through properly for some reason.

I'll upload it.  What browser are you using? I only tested this in Firefox.  Like I said, I'm not 100% done yet (otherwise I'd have tested it in IE too).  I had to fix the voting last night too.  It's certainly shaping up though, and you seem to like it, so I guess I'll keep working on it this week.

I uploaded your Blink 182 album with Internet Explorer, and that appeared to work ok.  I made a few other minor change too.

Not technically an album cover, but it is a music-related photoshop, plus I spent the last three hours or so working on it:

wasn't the Woodstock soundtrack the same as the poster? You could submit it as that if you want.

Good point....surely one of the hundreds of "Collections" albums used the poster as its cover, and the soundtrack is the same. Up it goes!  :)
Edit: one problem - amazon only has the one that utilizes one of the crowd shots as the cover, not the poster. Oh well.  :(

Laugh it up big guy. I'd make sure I had all rights associated with that particular cover, as in the future it's bound to be worth something, being one of those valuable 'one-in-a-million-misprint' collectibles and all.

Oh, I realised why some of my entries wouldn't work properly. I saved them as 24-bit BMPS instead of JPEG.

Another suggestion: A 'CD single' option, there are lots of those with parodying potential.

if you can find it on amazon with a picture, I'd say go ahead and do it..  no need to seperate them out from the albums

Argh, some error about a thread missing or something for the amazon retrieval page.

I'll keep this here for safekeeping.

I couldn't make heads or tails of that chart.  If every column stands for one letter...  Wlhat are all the different colors for?

I fixed a bug today in the photoshop scripts, that was erasing the display of the current voting results everytime I approved new entries.

I also added some additional explanation text to the submission form, so I hopefully stop get stuff that doesn't belong.  But since it looks like more KYLE spam/nonsense, I doubt it.
