Subject: Looks like things are back to normal
I think I have fixed the problems that allowed the lame-o who hacked the system from occuring again.
I lost about 25,000 of the messages posted here over the past four months, most of which occured after February 2nd. People like Rock'n'Roll fan who were not members yet, will need to create new accounts.
I will be appointing at least two new moderators. While additional moderators wouldn't have prevented this melt down, it will insure that the person who was harrasing people here, will be less likely to be seen by anyone here again.
I am going to allow public posts for the time being. If I have to, I will turn it off.
Welcome back. It's been fun in the past, and I hope it can still be fun moving forward. I view everything as a means to learn. This taught me to pay more attention to security.

I think I know who the dirty dog is, though I won't name names. (You can rest assured it wasn't me 'cause I would never do anything like this.) It's great to be back, although J. C. will find out that he's America again and Rock & Roll Fan (who will have an unfortunate anniversary on Friday) is BostonFan 76 again (and at 12 posts!); but it sucks that about half my posts were deleted, knocking me down to Rockhopper status…

Welcome back, Chucky 8). I was hard work, but I think you've finally beaten the snot out of that demon who sabotaged the messageboards. I don't care about my lost messages that much. I have been demoted to Rockhopper Penguin status, but it didn't really matter. I mean, some of the comments from others were succinct. The main thing is the board is back up, and I've never been more proud of being an American than I am now. ;)
Now if we can just relocate our lost members. :-/

For those of you who don't know me so well, I racked up the majority of my posts last Fall when I literally used to spend a couple of hours a day on this board.
During the past few months, I haven't been spending nearly as much time around here. I went and got a life. And let me tell you this... It's greatly overrated! :-/

Like a lot of others, I've grown accustomed to this place, and was beginning to miss it. I hope we find our "lost" members soon.
(P.S. I'm not concerned with lost posts. Cool subjects will always be brought up again, and post rankings were never a big thing with me, though I knew it was for some.)

When I installed the software, a default account is created to start off the software. You're supposed to delete it once you create an account for yourself. When I installed the software, I had to try it a couple of times first, so I got lazy and didn't delete it each time I installed it. The last time I installed the software was the version we used, it still had that account there, which had the ability to delete all messages, members, and boards. I have now deleted that account, so it shouldn't happen again. It's like hacking 101, once of the easiest ways to infilitrate a system.

...sort of like setting up your SQL server forgetting to set a password for the sa user? Hell, *banks* have been known to do that (and for their on-line databases, too :o)

See! See! THIS is what happens if you have too many people breaking the rules! Instead of going through every single post to delete those that are deemed inappropriate, they simply wipe out large chunks of it at a time to catch anything they might of missed!
Seriously, though, it's good to have the boards back up again. ;D
