There is a bug in the program that blocks out responses with quote.
Simply copy the name of person, quote and place quotation marks for purposes of clarification when responding.

No need to apologize. You're very fortunate it hasn't affected your responses. And I'm very happy to hear that! :)
But some may not be so lucky. I wouldn't want those affected to waste time posting a reply which won't show. All they would see, would be a black band or backround. :-/

...seems to be to do with the way the HTML generator parses the style guides and/or creates tables: the time when it happened to one of my messages, I edited the post only changing the position of <cr>s within the message and it fixed the problem

Hairspray, I noticed that but I thought I had done something wrong within my post. I went back to modify and deleted something in the info about who's quote it was....lol I forgot what exactly but it worked. :P

I've fixed the issue (I think) it supposedly only happens when you end a post with a smiley, and someone quotes it.. continue to quote like normal, and if new posts exhibt the behavoir, point it out
