Subject: Idea for improvement

Hey Chucky,

Is there any way to add a chat room to your site? I think it would be fun to have a chat feature.

Chucky used to have a chatroom on this site but it wasn't very popular.  I tried it but found that most of the time I logged in I was the only one there.  :(  Chucky even  set it up so that people could schedule when they'd be in the chatroom, but it didn't make any difference.  :-/

Maybe it will grow in popularity? If it does not use too many resources, then I think he should give it a go even if it is not used too often. Every now and then it would be fun to chat with another member rather than go back and forth with 10 private messages over the course of two days.

I agree, this might be useful!
IMs are not the best for chatting!

I think IMs are better for chatting than PMs.

In my experience, PMS is never good for chatting ;)

I've given up on the idea of running a chat room. If someone wants to set one up I'm happy to point people there, but it's not anything I want to do.

I think it's a good idea, if enough people want to do it.  Chat rooms are easy to set up on MSN and such.

The cool thing about having a chat room here is you can log in with your current account name. If we used some different service, then it might get confusing. What if our user names are taken?

Hey Chucky, if you had one in the past, how much effort did it take to administer?

the problems were different every time I tried it.. basically I could never find software I liked. Most of the packages I tried were notorious for crashing a lot, had poor admin control (I couldn't easily boot people off, or enforce password protected names, which is something you indicate you want)..

so yeah, it tended to be a headache, and on top of it, no one used to use it.. I'm sure that if I started one up again, there may be more interest in it, but I would need to research various packages before trying it again..

right now, I need to focus on a new project (you'll see details emerge in the next week or so).. hopefully this new project will help me obtain a new job as well, so this would have to wait even if I was willing to do it..

Wouldn't it defeat the purpose of the forums to some degree because everyone would want to log into that and chat straight away with no need to post? Just asking. ;D

I don't think so.. anything that people like to use is a plus for the website anyways..

In my experience chat rooms are popular for a while then everyone seems to drift off...or maybe they go elsewhere and don't tell me!!  :-[

I know this is totally off topic and a really small thing but it's bugging me to death...could you please add the third n in announcements
