Subject: hidden users?

Sometimes I notice that at the bottom of the index page it says something like
4 guests 0 buddies 2 users (1 hidden)
can anybody be a hidden user? and if so, why would you want to be one?
or is it one of the mods doing mod type things?

if you're the type of person who makes a lot of personal messages, you may not want others to know when you're on the system (they'll start pestering you). There's an option in your profile to remain hidden so that people don't know when you're online. The moderators can still see you, but regular folk can't.

I have a question related to this. Sometimes when I'm logged in, my name is not listed at the bottom of the index page. Why is that?

When I've noticed this happening it's when I've just logged in. I think it's just that the listing part is only updated every so often.

Yeah, but sometimes when I hit the refresh button on my browser it works, but other times it doesn't. You may be right though.
