Subject: New search box

I put up a google search box. It won't work as well as the regular search does, but it also won't crash the server. Temporary fix until I can spend some time working on the database for the site.

I tried to search the word "insomnia" in "inthe00s" - I was looking for an old thread I had called "Insomnia".
This result below is the only one that led to an actual thread. It is from the parody section.
http://www.inthe00s.com/index.php?topic=6903.0;prev_next=next
All the rest, most of which are from the thread I was looking for, came up as archive:
http://www.inthe00s.com/archive/membersonly/index_06_2005.shtml
http://www.inthe00s.com/archive/membersonly/index_10_2002.shtml
which means I can read them but I can't reply. Do you have any idea why the parody one was the actual thread, and the PPP ones were just archive??

because to google they probably look alot alike so they get marked as duplicates.

yeah, they show up as "supplemental results" if I go to google proper to search for them. I think it's possible for me to add a link on the archive section to topics that are actually active. I'll have to see if I can do that today to put this issue to rest.

the messages in the archive should now have links if the topic is still active. It's a little cumbersome to have to view the archive first, but google doesn't give me a huge amount of control over that.

How do you decide if a topic is still 'active'?

it's not really whether it's being still posted in or something, it's whether it's in the current messageboard software, or something from before the last major upgrade. So anything more recent than 2003 or so.
